Thank God for an Outback Pub
I walked a hundred k’s over desert track With me swag a-swingin’on me aching back I’d drunk me last drop from me flask There weren’t a soul that I could ask For some water to wet me lips Or carry me load to ease me hips. I prayed to God to help me out I promised ‘Im it would be my shout If ‘E could lead me to the nearest Bar But I ‘spose I expected too much, by far. Then suddenly, on the shimmerin’ horizon, Was somethin’ beautiful to clap me eyes on In the distance was a public house. “Thank you, God! That’s really grouse - I didn’t think you’d answer me prayer I owe you one when I come up there.” I muttered as I tried to run Shadin’ me eyes from the mid-day sun And dropping me swag upon the ground. At long last a pub I’d found. Funny thing was, that the closer I got The pub seemed to move around a lot I tried to figure why it wouldn’t stay still And I was beginnin’ to feel somewhat ill I recall someone once said it’s an optical illusion But I reckon them words are a bit confusin’ Thought I might be losin’ me mind Or maybe I was goin’ blind Then, at last, I began to focus. No more optical hocus pocus. I finally reached me destination And I was ready for a celebration. The sign above said “The Camel’s Lot” - I recall me ma’ once read about Lancelot But the fancy name weren’t gonna put me off I never was an upper-class toff; At last I could shout “Drinks all round!” As a man’s waterin’ hole I had found
Explanation! "k's' are an ozzie abbr. for kilometers "Grouse" refers to Ozzie "top quality" |
