Wonderful as always Harry. I felt touches of Nevada, USA in that poem too.

Thank You, Sue, ...For a moment I thought your pictured depicted you in the desert, but then I realized you are on the beach !Embarassed

I never thought of that Harry. I'm always talking abuot the Nevada desert, so it could easily be, except the happy smile means I'm at the beach.

Actaully, the happy smile is because right in front of my feet I had written I Love Ed in the sand. Sadly I had to crop that out of the picture because it didn't fit.

My apologies for the political nature of this poem

George Washington’s Mansion – Symbol of Peace

**************************************

Nestling beside the Potomac’s shore
A mansion rests, as no other before
Gardens trimmed, immaculate
Inquisitive visitors appreciate
In proud admiration as they view
The grand building, of old and of new
Revered and erect, a National shrine.
A work of art, of classic design
Symbol of unity, left in a country’s hands
Peaceful and splendid, she still stands
Interior walls of mahogany and pine
In elegance, where all would dine
Magnificent paintings, the walls adorn
Beneath which servants awaited, red tunics worn
A writing desk that had not keys
Abundant historical pleasantries.
The Master-bedroom was Martha’s retreat
Where Washington faced his final defeat
Passing quietly to everlasting life,
Leaving behind, his distressed wife.
Higher then, to the magnificent Turret
Above which stands to this day, yet
George Washington’s gilded dove of peace
In the hope that wars would forever, cease

Alas, the years have taught them naught

Innocent victims have died in wars fought

Suffering and misery continues to thrive

As children without parents attempt to survive.

Those heartless men who exert their powers

From within the walls of their ivory towers

Feel no shame caused by their reckless actions

Steadfastly supporting their thoughtless factions

Can they not see the anguish they cause?

Hostilities earn no one’s applause

Why do they continually ignore

The public demand to end all war?

Beneath The Old Oak Tree

I stayed awhile beneath an oak –

Resting my aging, aching frame

I am just an ordinary bloke

No pretentious stateliness or fame

I’m getting older every day

My health is waning, I’m losing my hair

Many others face life this way.

Sometimes I think it’s just not fair

But wait a moment - I digress

Forgive me if I appear to moan

About my age and healthiness

(Did I hear you give a groan?)

My conversation, thus, commenced:

I stayed awhile beneath an oak

Yet I was not alone, I sensed

Something in my serenity awoke

A presence overcame my being

I was not alone after all

In my mind’s eye I was seeing

A Holy Man, bearded, tall

“Fear not,” I heard the Image say,

“I am your Savior and your friend -

All you have to do is pray

My Father will His hand extend.”

“Think not of your personal ill

It is merely of this earth;

It is not the Father’s will

His plan is of greater worth

A spiritual life beyond compare

You will find within His Realm

Just remember with each prayer

Ask that ageing not overwhelm.”

Here's a short poem I wrote for some American friends :-

As we grow older months fly by
Another year is drawing nigh,
October now with skies of blue
Spring for me, Autumn for you.

Twill soon be Christmas so it seems
With Santa filling children's dreams
I remember England in the snow
But heat and drought, now all I know.

But friends are dearer now I find
and closer to my heart and mind
So as another month goes past
our friendship holds together fast.

Thank you for the compliment, Ruth.  To answer your question I would apportion my(don't know about Wolf Undecided) to 1% political - 5% humour - 4% sundry, and due to the amorous nature of oneself Tongue out (!!) the remaining 90% to the adoration of the fairer sex....................Laughing, and yes, I am feeling quite well...much to the concern of my dear wife Mary...apropos the above statement...that is to say she considers me far too "frisky for a man of my age!"  I begin chemo. on Wednesday, and in the early stages with progressive courses of Chlorumbucil tablets - a non-radical form of treatment.  This should control the balance of my blood cells and platelets
