Sadly my bird watching has been curtailed with my recovery, but I had to go and look at the Raven that landed on one of our telephone wires today. It was a beautiful, shiny bird, very common here in our small town, but not often here in the garden. |

Sadly I can't travel to any of the planned events as they are too far away, but I'll go out on my own (weather permitting) and see what our little town has to offer. Do you have a New Years Day bird count in England. |

During a period of one hour each RSPB member records the number of birds that visit their garden. Local schools also get involved in the watch. This year it will be the 30th year that the event has taken place. If I remember correctly, over a quarter of a million people took part last year. You can find out more at http://www.rspb.org.uk/birdwatch/index.asp. Regards Roy J. |

Over here they have organized bird counts on the 1st of January, you go out and about in your area and count as many species as you can. All of the organized bird counts are about 160 miles away, a distance we go regularly, but with the winter weather so unpredictable I won't take the chance. No, I'll be happy enough going to all the little spots I've found here over the years. |
