I know just how you feel Diana. At one time I had six, yes six, cats. I am down to three. They are like my children. Their personalities were all different. First we had Dusty. He was grey with gold eyes born in 1989. He was so regal looking and was quite a talker. He always knew when my husband's car pulled up to the house. He would meet Craig at the door and talk until he was picked up and cuddled. We had to put him down at age 17 due to a cancerous growth in his mouth.  Then Ralphie came with our house. He was long haired and black. He was about 5 years old when we brought him inside. The sweetest little boy would just throw himself on your feet, roll around and purr. If you were sad he would lick the tears off your face. He was 16 when we had to put him down from kidney failure. We rescued a litter in the neighborhood in 1998. They are Jingles, Rascal, (both beige tabbies); Katie and Cuddles, (both tuxedos). Jingles was huge, weighed over 16 pounds and had piercing eyes like a lion. He loved to be on your lap. Whenever I had a migraine and laid on the couch he would lay on my side and reach his paw up and lay it on my head. It was like he was trying to heal me. He then developed a very rare cancer for cats called hemiangiosarcoma and had to have that leg amputated. He did okay for another year and a half with 2 more surgeries to remove growths. With homeopathics he was like a kitten until the end. We had to put him down when he started to have pain. He was 7 years old then.

Now we still have Rascal, who is our jumper. He likes to get on anything tall and look down at you like a vulture. He also begs like a dog. Cuddles is over 15 pounds and likes to play football. He also likes to roll on his back in the kitchen and sing to me while I am working in there. And Katie is a princess. She is so dainty and likes to curl the end of her tail. It looks like a big feather. You can't hear her when she meows. You just see the mouth move.

They all love to play and cuddle. I wish they would be with me forever. Now I need a dog. I love animals. Birds, chipmunks, you name it. Well maybe not all animals. I do not like snakes.

Catherine, your stories about your cats make me smile.  They really do have their own personalities don't they?  And despite what many people think, every cat that has ever shared its life with me has been affectionate and loving in their own unique ways. Two of my previous cats come to mind, Cosette was a long, black haired beauty who used to get upset when she wasn't cuddled right away. To show her displeasure she would pick up the first personal object of yours that she could find, and if she could lift it, she would take it straight to the toilet and drop it in! After the first couple of times this happened I learned to keep the toilet lid down; and then I would go in and find all kinds of things on the floor around the toilet!Pumpkin was a chubby little calico that would butt her head against your chin until you kissed the top of her head. Once you kissed her she would go away contented!

Like your Ralphie, I too had to put my Merlin down due to kidney failure.  It was sudden and he didn't suffer for long thank god but it was without doubt one of the hardest things I've ever had to do. I cried and cried! However, for all the pain of losing him I would not trade one single day of his life with me.  Part of loving them and being responsible pet owners is knowing when enough is enough and having the courage to do what must be done to eliminate unnecessary suffering.

Diana, Cosette reminds me of Dusty. He liked to play in the toilet water. He would find toys to drop in there and then play with them in the water. We too had to learn to keep the lid down. I have two little Christmas mice. Mr. and Mrs. Claus mice. Dusty must have thought they were for him. Every year they would go missing and I would find them in the toilet. Maybe he was mad that he didn't get what he wanted for Christmas! Undecided  And Ralphie sounds like Pumpkin. He too would always butt his head against you. He was my daughter's favorite. She would sit for hours on the sofa with the cat in her lap.

She swears that when she leaves home she is taking Dusty, Ralphie and Jingles remains with her. I don't want to part with them. Does that mean I have to live with my daughter for the rest of my life?  He He He

You know, I can't quite remember. I think it had something to do with the way he played when he was little.

I brought the four in when they were 4 weeks old. I have pictures and all of their baby teeth! If I can ever figure out how to get the pictures on the forum I will show them. First I have to learn how to scan them in.Frown

My dad and Elvis had the same great great grandmother. .

Yup! Wink

Yes. her name was Matilda Gibson...she's in the Cherokee Application books as the wife of an Chief Moniac..from what I undersstand not an full blood Indian, or else not an full blood Cherokee exactly, both my dad's geneaolgy chart, which I didn't prepare has an "Dove" White in it, as does "Graceland" Elvis"s estate also. This woman I have an picture of...she is an "HUGH; woman, among her sisters and children, it would take me some time to understand that tribal tradition has it that the "Chief" and his wife must Bless" ALL food that was eaten, had strict rules about sitting at like an throne all day long amoung the people helping them..to make decisions..and ate before anyone else in the tribe "could" eat. I have been researching the Native Americans for some time now trying to understand thier ways besides the "scalping" of others. If I can get my computer up an running I'd like to show you my dad's younger pictures. My dad had an "ankle" injury from running track in high school, no doubt why he may of been an medic in WWII...though he was still there on the beach during "D Day"...but he always suffered this ankle problem in life.  Twins run through every generation in the family and they particuarly do so in marrying also. I have been told many thing about Elvis,  in that he changed the color of his eyes with glasses, in that he had dyed his hair when he was younger, he also battled an weigh tproble m all his life...in ways he was an "king" of more then Rock in Roll if you could understand. Most of the Geneaolgy I have on him though, I did not write, but took from sources that had already written it...along with things that had been passed down to me via "family". My hubby's sister was the last one to have twins in the family,..they turned out triplets come to think of it, and my aunt Joan had the twins. My hubby's side two sister in-law's are sisters, and the generation back ,there were three of the same family that married into three of his family that were brother and an sister. I think this is some of the "English" influence...as my grandfather's name was "Charles" then came Henry, then came William, then came Jeremiah (my hubby's name) , then came William again that we have documented information on. You people have Prince Charles, and Prince Hnery and William.  You had Lady Diana "Spencer" and  after she died tragically my little neighbor boy, whose name was "Spencer" and an friend of my son's whom earlier had moved away, was killed in an tragic accident also, during an college party he has been drinking (though he was under age) and "fell" somehow, off an balcony at an college dorm. His mother is suspious of his death. His grandfather was an "Hough" ...Honerable "Judge" Hough..whom died about two weeks later on also. You will see one of the Lawson family an branch of the Bough or Hough house early in England. I have the "coat of arms legacy" of them. I was asked to do the Elvis Presley research by information I had given an Tennessee Geneaolgy Library, and when I agreed to it, they gave me Vernon Presley's brother to write to...and we corresponded back and forth many years. He told me that he felt that they were Native Ameircans lines though they are saying they are Scotch-Irish. It was not until we found the Cherokee Applications mentioning Matilda Gibson that we really had an source other then my mother's side that we could compare real good. Matilda came into my father's side as an "White" surname as an second marriage. Here's some other things, I met my hubby when I was 14 years of age, we dated and married after I got out of High school, Elvis didmuch the same thing, my hubby's was stationed at the complex that Evis Presely had been at before (Fort Hood) he left of rGermany where he met Priscilla, also an younger gal that he didnt' marry until later after she finished her schooling, we both had one kid, him an duahgter, me an son, I wish you could of seen the Girl's one time "screaming" when he did an "Elvis" type stint in High School chior. My nieghbor grwoign up, her name was "Grace". No, we havent' really planned all these things to be as they were. They just happened "naturally" as most legacy is sometimes.
