Hmmmmm . Looks like this thread needs reviving !

I heard this in church today :

Christmas Bells by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

I heard the bells on Christmas Day
Their old, familiar carols play,
And wild and sweet
The words repeat
Of peace on earth, good-will to men!

And thought how, as the day had come,
The belfries of all Christendom
Had rolled along
The unbroken song
Of peace on earth, good-will to men!

Till, ringing, singing on its way
The world revolved from night to day,
A voice, a chime,
A chant sublime
Of peace on earth, good-will to men!

Then from each black, accursed mouth
The cannon thundered in the South,
And with the sound
The Carols drowned
Of peace on earth, good-will to men!

And in despair I bowed my head;
‘There is no peace on earth,’ I said;
‘For hate is strong,
And mocks the song
Of peace on earth, good-will to men!’

Then pealed the bells more loud and deep:
‘God is not dead; nor doth he sleep!
The Wrong shall fail,
The Right prevail,
With peace on earth, good-will to men!’

Yes, that is a great one, Mick.

That was Mark Twain's favorite Christmas carol. He had searched and searched for all the lyrics to the song but had been unable to find them. His daughter, Jean, found a copy in Longfellow's own hand and acquired it for Twain as a Christmas gift. Jean died on Christmas eve before she could give the poem to her father.

I never knew that, Diana.  Thanks for sharing that.

As December this year is longer than December last year, you'll be able to spend more time during the Xmas and New Years celebrations than you did last year.

Its because of the earth's rotation slowing down, and 1 second has been added to this year's December to correct the clocks to allow for this. A bit like a Leap Month.

I had no idea! Time is fascinating isn't it?

Is it true that astronauts age more slowly when in space?
