It made me realize that Christmas is only 14 weeks away, and I was wondering if anyone else makes home made gifts to give away, and if you do what kinds of things do you craft? What is your favorite part of the holiday? Do you do anything special to decorate? What are your favorite Christmas carols?

I do like hand crafting many (though not all) of my Christmas gifts. One of my favorite things to make are "message boards". I think about the person the gift is for and try to personalize each one. For instance, for my contemporary friend, Sean, I made a triple board, the top of which he could write on using dry erase markers, the middle section was a magnet board, and the bottom portion was a bulletin board. The entire ensemble was framed using a modern oak frame which complements the cabinetry in his kitchen. |

It makes me so angry when I go in supermarkets and half the shelves have already been taken over for Christmas, it's as if no one is allowed to eat anything but Chocolate from now on! I say ban Christmas till at least the start of December! It all comes down to £ again, and who can make the most from it! and its far too commercial!! I wont even think about it till December. |

No I do agree Lyn - I don't like to see the decorations until December either - Terry's birthaday is 1st December and after that it is Christmas time. However as Diana said if you make gifts you really have to start now so thanks for the reminder Diana! I usually make my own cards - I love crafting. Last year though I drew a scene of Bourton-on-the-Water with ink and water colour crayon then scanned it in the computer and printed it on cards. It was still personal but took less time. I also make a yearly newsletter showing what happened to us each month with photos to illustrate it eg. holiday photos, birthdays etc. Everyone loves the newsletter but again it takes less time than writing lots of letters! Unfortunately I have to think of time as I am so busy doing tax returns! |

Just kidding, I know many who don't particularly like Christmas for one reason or the other and it's okay by me if everyone would rather not discuss it yet. My thoughts were more along the lines of if you make your own gifts you must start early or you'll never get them all done in time. |

I must say I am a lot like Paul in this way. I like to get gifts that match the recipient, Something special that I know would make them happy. I also like to make gifts. This year it is snowmen made out of socks. One year I did the legend of the pretzel and made pretzel ornaments out of Crayola's model magic, painted them and put glitter on for the salt. Handed them out with the printed story. Everybody loved them. I think a gift that has been homemade with love and special attention has a special meaning to it. The giver spends a lot of time thinking of the recipients. I have a nativity that is up all year round in a class case in my living room. and I love to listen to "Music Box Christmas." The best part of Christmas for me is sharing it's meaning with family and friends and making Elsie happy! |
