I have only ever known it to mean as the word suggests, a very small room in any public house where the locals, often the older gents perhaps, would sit quietly enjoying their beer. Just a very small room possibly only 6 or 8 feet square.

Yes, exactly! About 8 feet by 6 feet in this case where C S Lewis 'Jack' sat in the 'Rabbit Room' as it was known, in front of a 'blazing fire, with a pint close to hand' as he said. Spot on Diana!

The place needs a Tudor feel,stone floors,huge fireplaces,tapestries,stained glass,great hall,and withdrawing rooms for rent out elegant events......
