Oh, and you must flip the pancakes in the pan too, that's part of the tradition.

Nela, enjoy your carnaval day, and tell us all about it.

If they are like crepes you can spread fruit, cream cheese, cinnamon, etc on and roll it up and eat it. If like our pancakes all sorts of things like butter, syrup, cinnamon, chocolate chips, whipped cream, fruit etc.

Thanks Sue. I'm not a 'Carnaval' (carnival) lover actually. It used to be fun when I was a little girl because we got to see the 'Cabeçudos' (cabeçudo=big headed man, check it here: http://olhares.aeiou.pt/cabecudos_foto1443832.html), but nowadays people just mimic the Brazilian Carnival, with Brazilian outfits and music, when we have such a rich tradition on this matter. It makes me a bit sad.

Some parts of Portugal still hold on to our traditions, like up in the north: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Careto

I found this if you're interested in reading some more: http://www.accessibleportugal.com/revista/2007/February/caretos.html

The traditional topping for pancakes is lemon and sugar, and very nice it is too.

We have pancakes at least once a week, and I like to put Golden Syrup on top. I get it from the English store I order from, though I have seen it once or twice in my 17 years over here in America on the shelf at the local store.
