Welcome back Cathy..I thought you were on the other day and posted.. that maybe you were back. It sounds like so many countries, impossible to see in one visit, which knowing from the genealogy, to always be true, besides the more known preserved historical sites...vacation well spent. I learn more about things understanding genealogy..it goes not only into migration patterns, but life styles, and ways of doing things also. Just like the different ways of castle building also.  For those of you interested, Rowland Lawson now has on his web site the complete lineage of the Lawson family back to King Edward I...through (Broughton Hall).  The Percell-Strawn-Reed line picks up after that on the Larkins family of my mother's. (Purcell's owned the area of Montrose, Scotland) ..and through George washintiong and the Lawon's most o fnorthcumberland areas of England toward Ireland.  We have an element of German, French, Irish, and Scotch in these lines, as well as Native American at times also.My Percy (Percell) lineage chart starts from Jerusalem, Isreal, most likely an Templar Kinght. I hope by the time I get there, I will know more about the Castle's they stayed at...what area"s meant what to them also. Look forward to your pictures and glad you had an good time. It's nice to met those we have come to know on the boards here also...good you took out some time to talk to POE members while there. Neighborly thing to do. Catch you later, go get those photo's developed!!!

Hey Shirley, my surname came from the Gerrards of Bryn on the Lancashire/cheshire boundry. lots of info and can be traced back to the Norman barons that helped william the Conqueror invade in 1066. before that Otto Fitz Gerald/ Gerardini goes back to Italy (Florence) (Mona Lisa) and the Gerardini family that created the House of Hanover from where our present Queen originated.

Sons of the Gerrards of bryn (my ancesters) emigrated to America in the 1600's and were involved with helping to form the state of maryland .

General Custers Cheif transulater was a Gerrard and only one of four who escaped from the battle of Little Big Horn.

Another of my ancesters from Bryn was involved in the Gunpowder plot and knew Guy Fawkes lol

Thanks Bill. I do have some wonderful pics and will get them up as soon as I can. I loved that area. It was so much fun to see so many places. The only thing I regret was not taking a notebook and writing down what I saw and where it was. So you learn something new everyday! I will remember for my return visit in October. I want to put together a scrapbook with all the pictures and pamphlets I picked up with a written diary.  Wish I had of know you were in that area. Would have been nice to stop and say Hi!
