I have been issued with a speeding ticket/intent to prosecute for tripping a speed camera on the way to an emergency. This is happening to all of us now, and i just wondered what everyone thinks of it?

We are allowed to break the speed limit on route to a life threatening emergency, but will be issued with one of these tickets, it has to be sent to our HQ, who then process it and send to our station, we then have to fill it in and send it back, where it will be processed again!! this is obviously costing the tax payer a lot of money in admin! and is a complete waste of time and money! as we don't actually get 'done' for it! but as a consequence many crews are slowing down and driving at 'normal' speed so the patient (taxpayer) pays the price again!!

Was the ticket because you were trying to get to work to get to a emergancy or were you in the emergency  vehicle trying to get to the emergency?

In the ambulance on the way to a job, lights and sirens on, the ambulances have a special light on the back that stays on, a blue light, as well as all the blue strobe lights all over the ambulance!!  so the speed cameras pick it up, so the police no we are on an emergency call!

OK, thats the most stupid thing I have ever heard of!!!!

Why in the heck do they call it a emergancy for if you are suppose to go the speed limit!!!!!! I have never heard of this before I can promise you if a cop needed you for a emergancy he would expect you to haul A** for him !! If i were a citizen there i think i would have to raise H** about that.

IS this the case for any and all emergancies????

Its not the police but the Highways Agency that control the speed cameras (and almost all other things involving the roads) office types paid from the public purse. I think if you have genuealy got 'Blues & Two's' on (as oppossed to nipping off to the 'chippy' for the 'staff tea order lol) the bird-brains in the HA should realise this. Best of luck Jason.

That is THE most insane thing I ever heard of!!! My family has been in the EMS for 30+ years (and me for 3 years) and we would never be in trouble for speeding to a call OR speeding to the ambulance building!! And I remember my stepdad doing 70-80 mph on the way to the building!!   I told my mom about this and she was shocked!!!  I just can't wrap my head around it!!

I agree it's wrong Jason. Another example of how ridiculous some of the rules in this country have become! No common sense left.
