OMG my post sounded a bit 'know it all',

Did not mean that at all....

I used to be involved with Hospital Radio so have an unusually large record collection, that is how I come to have so many versions of particular song.

Didn't sound that way to me Terry. So why not put your knowledge to use and give us something to think about. Who sang...

While we wait for Terry.......

In 1965, a Welsh singer recorded a song  that featured a lot of the Ted Heath Band with Jimmy Page [Led Zepplin] on guitar. Went to number 1 in the UK and then also in the US.

What song did this Welsh singer record that was originally written for Sandy Shaw?

Sorry Cathy; Shirley Bassey had already made a name for herself with the Goldfinger title track; this person was a virtual unknown when they went into Decca's recording studios in St John's Wood, London to record a song that hadn't been intended for them---then it went to number 1.

So, What do we have here in early 1965?  An unknown Welsh singer; a song with a big band type sound, and guitar licks in the middle 8 by Jimmy Page. Another clue---later in their career, my dad played in their backing band in the US; notably in Las Vegas. Smile
