I agree completely about radio advertising. That's one reason why I now listen to the BBC at work - I pick one of the local stations and listen all day at work. Commercial free and what a variety of music they play! It's great! I wish I could get it in my car.

The music sound quality seems better to me than the CD's. Shame they love talking over song intro's. I like the older stuff so Sat nights was listening to Dave Cash, relayed from BBC Kent, and Sundays, 5 to 7PM, [Tony] Gillam's Gold----hits from the last 40 years, relayed from BBC Oxford, often with interesting anecdotes about the song or artiste. The other day he was playing US Number Ones from 1966 ( I think) and played Simon & Garfunkle's, The Sound(s) of Silence, electrified version over-dubbed by Bob Dylan's The Band without their knowledge, thus didn't know they had a No. 1 hit, which ended up on The Graduate sound track later. Their own acoustic version that The Band borrowed, had gone no where in the charts earlier, ending up as a track on their Weds Morning, 3AM LP which a Boston DJ kept playing until it reached the ears of Mr Dylan and Co. who had a play with it in the studio, producing a No. 1 hit by accident. |

Because he'd been brought up in Vancouver where he started his radio career before coming back to England when, I think, he was a DJ on one of the pirate radio ships; possibly Radio Caroline I think. Going back a bit now ! I used to do quite well with his contests with his phone-in |
