Happy St. George's Day everybody.  And thanks for the info about St. George on the other thread, Michael.

I think I'd like to set a goal to be in England on St. George's day next year, God willing and the creek don't rise.

I saw this in the Oxford news online, and thought how important it is for us to support efforts by our community members to celebrate our nation.

The Icknield Way Morris Men will be celebrating from 8pm tomorrow night at the Fox and Hounds pub in Uffington, close to Dragon Hill, where legend has it St George slayed his nemesis.

I wish I were over there now to celebrate, but I'm not, so I'll have my own little celebration here.

Happy day to those of you in England tomorrow.

Thanks for your support Guy's but I think you can take the 'Dragon hill' ledgend' above with a pinch of salt lol.
St George of course. never came to England., as I posted on another post, he was a Turkish born Roman soldier remembered for his bravery and galantry. He defended Christians when they were being victimised by the Pagan rulers of Rome. He rescued a female from being sacrificed to a dragon-like serpant that tormented a village in north Africa. Richard the Lionheart whilst fighting in the crusades, impressed by the stories of the man, his honour, fairness and bravery, decided to honour the man and what he stood for by wearing his symbol (red cross on white background) on his shield and that of his English armies. On his return to England it was adopted and ST GEORGE was made the patron saint of England.
I am a proud englisman and try to live in the image of St George
Happy St Goeorges day to everyone!
