Another claim to fame of course is Wilberforce and slave abolition. But I still think Hull is best viewed at Midnight on a dark cloudy winters night. I would never insult Yorkshire by including Hull with it, there are so many stunningly beautiful parts of Yorkshire. But having said that I will still stick with the Lakes, or Snowdonia, or Scottish Highlands. Yorkshire has some magnifient rolling countryside with the moors and the dales but nothing quite as dramatic as the more mountainous areas. Timpkin's is where my aunties ex husband used to work and sorry but I don't know if they are still in production. Ande yes, I am definitelty counting down the days now, getting closer to to a weeks walking and photographing although there are not many cottages like those you find. But I will certainly be posting some piccies while we're there. Edited by: Dave John at:15th June 2011 19:40 |

It is not red but a sort of reddy brown colour (more brown than red) and my poor point and shoot camera with 4x zoom can't cope with it!! (And I was shivering too much!) So no pics, I'm sorry to say. Now I've come in to warm up and it can un-eclipse on its own without my help now. LOL. Btw the sky is absolutely covered in bright stars tonight which is quite a stunning sight. (Wish POE was the same!!) |

Or just to be poached? lol. Or is it just a joke? Does anyone eat tripe anymore? Is it even still available? I am finding it much harder to get liver or kidney anymore! |

There, that should bring him out of hiding. lol Can't help but wonder what he's upto these days, maybe something to do with that picture. Maybe the lady on the left has found him out? lol So c'mon James where are you? Plenty that miss you around here... Edited by: Ron Brind at:15th June 2011 22:18 |

Still interested to know if anyone still eats (and enjoys) eating Tripe! and what Ferrets have to do with Northerns? Is someone going to enlighten me please? Have a wonderful day everyone, hope you all have a great weekend planned. |
Dave John Posts: 22335 Joined: 27th Feb 2011 Location: England | Posted at 07:48 on 16th June 2011 Good morning.... Tripe is still available in a lot of butchers shops although I have to say i have never tried it. Ferrets were originally kept for hunting ! ! ! rabbits mainly I think, as they are long and thin and could chase said rodents through their burrows and eventually out into traps laid at burrow exits. I presume that this got carried on to the good old Yorkshire pastime of keeping them as pets. It has to be said although I have never had one as a pet, prefer our cat, they are a lovely animal. My nephew had a couple for a while. Hope this helps albeit brief. I'm someone else may come up with a more detailed explanation. Have a nice day, it looks good here at the momemt ! ! ! |

Sk Lawson Posts: 4014 Joined: 7th Oct 2010 Location: USA | Posted at 17:44 on 16th June 2011 I will never forget my episode with both the ferrets in my area, and the wolf/dog packs. The wolf/dog pack came from an Tree nursery owner not far away...he trained them every year for some cross-country Alaska Dog team competition when it snowed...so if we had snow and it was late at night, it was not unsusal to see and team of dogs with an huge long sled going down the middle of the street in the moonlight...or snowstorm..barking and going like mad in racing speed. As for the ferrets...they lived across from the Tree Nursery people...and hubby and I use to go out about 20 mintues before midnight on New Year's Eve to an local resturarant to "bring in the New Year" with an toast and the count-down to the next year. We decided when my son was about 15 to have Mark come over for the night so they could stay together while we were gone....we startedto leave, were outside... when we noticed something in the bushes...and pretty soon some people in an car came by and stopped us and said they were looking for an ferret that got away on them. So we told them we saw something and they got out and went looking for it..they didn't find it...and in the meantime Mark and my son didn't even know all this was going on inside the house. Well, we left and came back maybe 12:15 pm or so...and we run into all kinds of muddy footprints going up the stairway...I said...OK, guys..what's this all about?.... I hear this "that's where the police brought in thier canines to sniff out for intruders"...INTRUDERS?!!!....Yep mom, we heard something outside in the bushes and called 911 (Mark's mother works for the Portland Police Dept as an Police dispatcher..so it sounds like something he'd do).... They came right in and sniffed around the house. Why didn't you call us?...some people had lost an ferret down the street and that's what it probably was, the dogs must of scared it away....What did the police say?...well, they wanted to know where my parents were at...What did you tell them?...that you guys went out drinking...Oh fine!!!...just what I needed. It's Ok mom, they know it was New Year's Eve!..well, next morning they called back and wanted to know when we got home last night and if everything was "OK"...so I explained the whole story to them. So much for the ferrets around here. I was embarrased and then some.....Kids..what can I say! I looked up tripe yesterday...I can't think of anyone here that sells it to tell the truth. Back in the old days of weight watcher's..we use to have to eat Kidney liver once an week....and found out it's very good smothered in onions...if you have the butcher cut it thin...or freeze it slightly and do that yourself...so your not ingesting thick slices of it. I lost 90 pounds that year... I adhered to the diet. I have never went back to regular soda pop..nor regular mayonnaise either...butter...that's been 32 years ago...since then have pretty much given up all soda. Scouts got me into that...as they say it can hamper your breathing at high altitudes if you hiking...water with lemon flavoring in it is was they drink. I can remeber hubby calling me on an business trip to Chicago for an Nurseryman's Convention back then and I was doing up those big Walla Walla onions...and was eating them instead of adding the beef liver when he called...at the time they had an nice slight french fried taste...he probably kept me on program then. Yet when I was preggie with my son...the smell of any grease use to just turn my stomach..esp french fry grease. But then I had every nurse around at work back then keeping me on my diet program, me and another gal...I watched them take her chocolate milkshake out of her hand walking down the hallway...looked at her and said..."HA HA"..they do it to me also!" I best get going...today the daughter in-law cleans things up for over summer and she's done working and schooling for three months. I am taking out an nice "roast" for "Father's Day" this weekend for my son..hope he don't have to work. Keep an eye on the grandkids. My brother's grandkids arrived at his house for an week yesterday also...two little girls. I took over an Disney story book collection to them and an small 3 wheel trike last night. As I know he don' t have to many toys for little kids arund his house. When I came in and logged in in this morning...I had 16 up-grades automatically placed in my computer before I could l use it. I have no idea what that was all about either....later people! |
