Hood. Most the parks were closed, and the roads to them..we noticed they had changed the mileage markers on the road...they now show up every 1/2 mile with an .5 at the bottom of the sign...must of been making thier own jobs again this year. Probably gearing up for ski season up on Mount Hood..but they didn't seem to have put up thier snow markers along the side of the road as of yet. Hubby brought me in some nice news today in the paper. The Pleasant Home Methodist HIstorical Church where my kids got married... celebrated this morning of being in service for 127 years. I reember his friend "John" was allowed to ring thier church bells as they finished thier vows...something I wanted done. Something I remeber as an kid...the church bells rang back then to...every Sunday calling people to God...didn't matter as to what religion you were either..if they had church bells..they rang out. We knew or know so many people that went to the church through the years...the Reed family bought the original land...my mother's maternal line back was an Reed...anyway...before they left the area and donated the land in Orient district....they saw to it the first public school was built there in our area....Reed's went down into southeast Portland an owned the ground that would become Reed College now...they sold that also eventually. It's an very prestigious area. Oak trees hundred's of years old. Just like the two Oak trees out in front of my house now. You can tell this church has seen its days of methodist curcuit riders going through it...they've had 51 pastors in the church. The would like to buy the original Pastor's home to renovate it also, but not for sale now. I think it might be the same one that has the lookout tower and or water well out behind the house...keep an eye on the Indians going up Johnson Creek to teh Sandy River back in the earlier days. My husband's boss owns an home with another of these lookout towers on it...and the third one not to far away is on the old highway and was incorporated in to an Oak Funriture making place. One of my husband's first bosses at the nursery wen tot this church...Charlie Shrofe...German name...he owned an nursery not to faraway, but don't know if they do any more..he died of diabetes some years ago...and then the Weight Watcher's recorder for all their meetings in this county pretty much... is whose does all the weddings at this church...it is now an Multnomah County Police co-ordination area for them at the church also. The church is small compared to the mega churches of today...but its well suited to having an nice memory of an wedding for the my kids. So...what's next?...I started an book last night called... The treasure of Khan...by Cussler...my adventuerous story writer that starts out with an chapter or two on history and weaves it into the now times. To bring it all together in the end of the book. We started out in the year 1245 and the invasion of Klubia Khan...going to invade Japan...with 3,000 ships in an Bay..they get caught in an Hurricane and all 150,00 of the soldiers and the ships perish...but the subject of the chapter...and he gets carried off in the current and lands ship wrecked and stays there for about 13 years before they can rebuild and get saved eventually....his homeland by the time he returns is not the same and all his men are gone...and basically he leaves for places elsewhere at the end of the chapter....the next chapter is completely different....I think I'll go read some now An new week starts tomarrow...... |

I was just reading an report on this winters expect La Nina....wetter and colder which brings in the snow. But you know, if you prepare with books to read an projects of various kinds and you have an fireplace and can make it through it without electricity if need be..it can be OK. Go to Surival.com and look back in the archives of this last spring...about an small town that got buried in snow last winter to where even the state highway dept couldn't get to them for an week. It was the people that stocked up food and alternative warmth and electricity measures that survived the best...and the community came together also....they had no refrigeration so they took their travle cooler to the local small school autotorium and made up the food as it unthawed for everyone...so it didnt' have to be thrown away. The only outside contact they had was listening to portable radio's. One guy owned an generator that could get an computer to work...he's the one that declared an state emergency situation for the town. Gives an lot of good insight to situations you would think could never happen these days. |
