I think The Minack cliff top open air theatre in Cornwall opened in 1994, now they do need to worry about the wind, but I certain it's not the right answer.

That is the first quizzy I have sussed the answer only to scroll down to find Ruth already got there. My knowledge of much anything north of Epsom in Surrey is sadly lacking these days.

             Well done Ruth.

Sorry Vince, have a try at this one Smile

Work was originally started on me in 1814, I was completed in 1815, but in 1854 I collapsed after an earlier lightening strike. My replacement was built in a slightly different place, and to be on the safe side in 1889 I had a lightening conductor added.

What am I, and why was I built ?

I am pretty sure I have cracked this one for a change but only from a google so I will sit on the side lines for a while. Thought it was something at the back of my mind but found something completly different  ( nothing to do with Monty Python )
