Kingsthorpe Cemetery Victorian Chapel Northampton In a picturesque part of Northampton's Kingsthorpe cemetery stands a small chapel built in the 19th century. Grave Of The Woman Who Shot Mussolini in Kingsthorpe Cemetery, Northampton On the 7th April 1926, Violet Gibson, whose grave can be found in Kingsthorpe cemetery, Northampton, emerged from a large public gathering and shot the Italian Fascist leader three times with a pistol hitting him twice in the nose. The infamous dictator survived the assassination attempt. Violet Gibson went on to spend much of her remaining years in Northampton mental asylum, now a private hospital known as St. Andrews. Kingsthorpe Cemetery, Northampton Surrounded by evergreens and cedar trees, Kingsthorpe cemetery along the A508 road to Market Harborough is one of the largest cemeteries in the town of Northampton. Among its hundreds of graves is the last resting place of Violet Gibson, who attempted to assassinate the Fascist Italian leader, Benito Mussolini. Site of Former St. John's Street Station, Northampton This modern multi-storey car park, designed with more than just a passing resemblance to a railway station, was built on the course of the old railway track itself only a few yards from the actual St. John's Street station itself. A section of the railway embankment close to the former station site that carried the line between Northampton and Bedford from 1872 to 1939, can still be seen squeezed between Beckett's Park and Morrisons supermarket close to Northampton town centre. Latimer and Crick Corn Merchants Building, Northampton Corn merchant's, Latimer and Crick, whose office and warehouse was ideally situated on the banks of the River Nene when materials were still delivered by canal barge, supplied local brewer, Phipps and Co., on the site now occupied by the Carlsberg brewery. After the business the building was set on fire. Escaping demolition, the building was converted into private apartments. Carlsberg Brewery Northampton Carlsberg brewery, opened in 1974 and now the fourth largest brewer in the UK, stands on the site once occupied by Watney's brewery - known at the time for its 'Watney's Red Barrel' bitter - and before that Phipp's Brewery. The brewery buildings stand close to the banks of the River Nene near the town's South Bridge.
