Historic Railway bridge Historic Railway bridge in Leicester UK due for demolition. Sold for the princely sum of £1 to DMU De Montfort University on condition it's totally demolished and got rid of. Will cost as much to renovate as to demolish, so of course it has to go despite vociferous protests but is very much against the wishes of the local population. Leicester Cathedral Leicester Cathedral photoshop equalise This bit here is still a bit messy . Feel free to add notes or comments I've discovered a very cool thing for really high contrast photos. Leicester cathedral ,a lot of my shots turned out like this. No flash used ISO 800 around 1/50th of a sec hand held. I have a morbid fear of lugging around a tripod and the attention it attracts. It was gloomy inside but had lamps lit which really threw things out. This is where a film camera wins hands down against a digital camera. original photo on left 2nd pic has a simple photoshop adjustment namely tab at top 3rd from left Image/adjustments/equalise, now you can see what it is. This is photoshop elements 2. 3rd pic is the 2 images combined on 2 layers and tweaked. I selected the brights from original photo with the magic wand at around 150 and put them on a new layer on the 3rd image to tone the white glare of the lamps etc down a bit. Basically if an image is sharp you can rescue it. I wouldn't rate it much as a photo still but at least you can see what it is. This picture appears in the following picture tours: |
Leicester UK 1879 bridge due for demolition Leicester railway bridge built 1879 due to be demolished Oct 5th 2009. An important landmark and historic feature will sadly be gone if Leicester City council have their way. It will cost the same to demolish it as to restore so money is no argument but we are individuals fighting against the might of a Council. England should keep its historic buildings, architecture and heritage for this generation and the next. We don't need another boring modern building This picture appears in the following picture tours: |
Bowstring bridge, Leicester built 1879 Due to be demolished Oct 5th 2009. Our wonderful heritage and history that Americans like is being wiped out despite vociferous campaigns against it. This is an important landmark and will cost the same to demolish it as to renovate so money isnt the problem. Its the pigheaded Councils attitude, 'We'll demolish this historic bridge no matter what and put up a nice shiny new building'. Any American Millionaires out there want to preserve a bit of old England? This picture appears in the following picture tours: |

Castle Gardens Leicester pond The pond here is actually small, maybe 15 feet across at it's widest point. Photo taken with pentax me slr and 24mm cosina lens which has made the pond look big. I love these old film cameras and lenses, no worry about your lens breaking if you bash it. 24mm on slr is also ideal for town architecture as it fits everything in. Leicester, Spinney Hills Park unusual viewpoint Spinney Hills Park, Leicester. There's a washbrook flowing through about 5 feet wide and I held the camera about an inch above the water and pressed the shutter button.Taken with pentax me slr @f5.6 or so. The bank on the left is about 6 inches high. The film was asa 200 and you cant alter it in these old cameras. If you have a digital DSLR camera whack your iso up to iso 800 so you can get f16 f22 and try a similiar thing. Your min shutter speed needs to be around 1/60th of a sec with these old slr cameras.. Leicester 1930s? Old photo scanned in but I'm not sure where this place is. The bunting etc would suggest a street party for a celebration. The cars would suggest 1930's the sign thing across the road has what looks to be a crown indicating a King or Queen. So here's an informed guess, the year was 1935 King George V Silver Jubilee. If anyone can identify this place I'd be grateful. This picture appears in the following picture tour: |
