On the river Soar ,Leicester city centre, near the Holiday Inn. The bridge was totally rebuilt but they kept these stone pillars with assorted heads sticking out. Every head is different.

Prince Ruperts Gateway, Leicester

Prince Ruperts Gateway, Leicester, so called because through here Prince Ruperts Royalist men chased the defeated Parliamentarians in the English Civil War where they fought a last stand among the castle walls. This is the about the only part of the old castle left. St Mary De Castro church is in the background.

Leicester prison looking very much like a castle. The walls are approximately 60 feet high at the sides and back away from the main entrance shown and nobody has ever escaped here.

The famous haunted book at Leicester Guildhall Museum Museum staff have come in in the morning to find the pages turned and the book moved. If you visit the place it has a real atmosphere of old times and important decisions being made there. You can feel it as soon as you enter.

A gibbet at the leicester Guildhall Museum. To be put in a gibbet after you were hung was reserved as a special mark of infamy for notorious criminals.

Bow bridge sign

Plaque on Leicesters bow bridge. Legend has it that King Richard III's bones were dug up from the nearby church and thrown into the River Soar near here a few years after his defeat and death at the Battle of Bosworth in 1485. The famous Shakespearean line "My kingdom for a horse!" comes from this battle.
