Here's an acrostic poem I wrote for my wife on Mother's Day lat year.    I conclude that Lyn and Ruth in particular are lacking in the romance department, and, of course, this excludes Peter...!

Harry

PS for those not into poetry, please read the first letter of each lineWink

A Rose for Mother (Acrostic)

A gift from God

Radiant and delicate
Of all things
So often given
Evoking joy

Flower of remembrance
Object of elegance
Radiant and exquisite

Mystical promises
Of things of beauty.
To let you know
How much we owe
Ever eternal. You are the
Rose

I don't know what to say, Harry.  It's simply beautiful!  I have a lot of mixed emotions over that one.  THANK YOU!

A few pages back, before yesterday's fun (LOL) many of you were expressing loss and bereavement in your wonderful writings and missing your loved ones, now passed on.  It's amazing how that kind of stuff will flow out with the tears.  I've written tons of stuff thru tears, but here's the one I will share here, in loving memory of my son, Tim.  He's been gone 15 years, but a day doesn't go by that I don't think of him.  That's why your poem was so touching to me, Harry.

I like to do something fun on Tim's birthday, so 2 years ago, my husband and I drove over to see Paul Rodgers in concert in California.  We had a GREAT time.  It was a happy day, for sure.  And since I started this little tradition, I also make sure I begin or end with a poem, even if I don't feel like it.  This is the one from June 12, 2006, his thirtieth birthday.

Thirty

Thirty’s the theme this yearOf the annual “birthday poem.”The numbers game,The colors gameThoughts swirl, on my way home. On my way home from CabazonOn a sungilt desert morn (mourn?)Rock and roll fantasy, lived last night -But thirty years ago this dayYou were born. That was the best day of my lifeA day I will always rejoice inThese milestones tremble, but alwaysI remember I have a choice in How to celebrate the dayA trip, a song, a friend, a cake!A way, a work, a will, a wonderA love, a life to make. The song last night reminded me “Tomorrow I’m gonna be at your side.”My love, my son, my angelThis morning, home, I ride. And on my back, a new shirtA cross with a heart that’s broken,Reminding me to cast my crownsAnd that mercy falls in many tokens. In melodies, in folks, in the wishing wellOf love, of peace, of hope, of joy.Blissful the sound of clarion bellRing recollections of you, my boy! Two years ago, I counted blessingsLast year’s theme was “missing you.”But this year – one of the milestones.Thirty pieces of silver,Thirty hearts of gold,Thirty. And today, the sky is so blue. Thirty years fled,Thirty thousand tears shedSixteen, not thirty you’ll always be.I know everything is all right now.I know we bothBe.

Sorry about the way it printed out.  I cut and pasted, it was OK on the source document.  Every place there's no space between words is the beginning of a new line, if that helps.  lol.

A suggestion on a rhyme with "Winifred"...Tongue out

 Harry

 Just a 'quickie'...untitled.

Poor old missus Finnigan

Arose one morning with 'flu

The doctor said "Oh, it's not you agin"

As a spray from her reddened nose flew

She sniffled as she went through his door

But she couldn' help herself it is true

Poor old gal, she really felt genuinely poor

"I'm sorry, doctor,  to tell you"

She said, "I 'ave this pain in me 'ead"

"Well all I can suggest for you, Winifred"

Says the doc. with a sarcastic smile

Is you stay home cosy in bed

And stay away from me for a while!

With respect, Ruth, allow me to send a copy of  poem  I wrote, following the passing of my brother-inlaw, two years ago, in Dover, UK. I have adapted it for you

 Harry

IN TIMES OF GRIEF

The passing of a loving son - a  friend
Is saddening for those still here
The vacuum by our sudden loss
Does not represent the end

When one we dearly love is lost
We know that he is at peace
His memory stays within us
And cannot be replaced at any cost

We should not mourn too long for death
Instead, to celebrate the life
That gave us happiness and joy
And cannot be spoken of in one short breath

So, in your time of loss and grief
Stay a-while, and give some thought
To the happy times you both shared
And from sadness you will find relief
