I looked at him very up close, as he shook my mother's hand, and his face looked so "old" as if he'd live three or four lifetimes already from the responsiblity it showed, and his eyes looked into mine briefly, and they were so clear, an full of "life" it illuminated his whole person. The next morning he would be shot and killed. In California. Since then I understand that Jackie Onasis's half-brother lives in Portland's "West Hills" area. Perhaps the "circumstances" of this played an large part in my memory.

My own "stage" debue was in Disneyland in Florida one year. Where they grabbed me and took me up on stage in this western era story, with "John" ..I was there to help make the background sounds while "John" pantomined the movements of our story teller's story. We each had an guy next to us telling us what to say or do. Of course every mistake we made was made into an "laugh" for the story content.with people laughing. I was clopping along with some half coconut shells for horse hoof sounds and don't ask me why I did what I did, but I heard this storyteller say, "and John dropped the baby" and I said just stopped, looked at the guy and said, "WHAT?'...with my hand on my hips. It broke up the entire audience laughing...while he was laughing also, caught off-guard. Then he stops and he says, it's "OK"..we'll change the story a bit!..John, DON"T drop the kid!!! Afterward, he said that I really "made" the show, and his day, as for people that did this little theater show with him...as far as people response's go on what he said. but maybe that was just all planned, hard to tell on that part. We all had some fun though and I brought back pictures of me on stage doing this show. The saloon gal gave my hubby an big fat red lipstick smooch in the center of his nicely balding head...while she was singing...that I got an picture of also. So mcuh for Disneyland. |
