I went to pick up Aaron from school today on his return from the 4 day school trip. When I got there the teacher stopped me and said that Aaron had sprained his wrist on Monday after falling off the monkey bars. He said it was obviously just a sprain so they hadn't taken him to hospital or let me know they had just wrapped it up with an old eye piece bandage. Since then he said he had joined in with activities and they had got him to climb the climbing wall so it was obvious that he was just wanting a bit of fuss. When I saw Aaron the injured arm was twice as big as the other. On the way out the teacher repeated that he was fine or he couldn't have done all those things and I answered that I walked home 1 mile uphill on a dislocated knee when I was 11 - I said we are made of strong stuff in our family and we are fighters and don't give in. I took Aaron to the hospital this afternoon and his arm is broken. They have plastered it and we have to return to fracture clinic tomorrow. The school have left him for 4 days with an untreated broken arm making him engage in all the activities without telling me. He has returned home traumatised - he thought they had told me and that I hadn't fetched him. I have had to spend hours reassuring him - on top of that he never wants to go on a trip with the school again. Terry is fuming - i am shocked. I can't believe the neglect my poor little lad has suffered. They didn't even give him painkillers - he hasn't slept with the pain and has been crying all night. |
