I once made the mistake of plugging a laptop into a phone line with no virus protection at all. Within a few minutes it was infected with literally dozens of viruses! Took me days to get rid of them - but the experience taught me a valuable lesson. |

I found that they worked against each other and slowed everything down to a crawl. Some of my downloads were blocked, although from safe sites, and in the end I had to sort out the firewalls that worked together. You can get a little paranoid about viruses, like I tend to be, but after one bad infestation that killed my hard drive, I am now very carefull. |

Both the internal drives have Windows XP on them. If one goes down, i just have to change drives over. All my files are backed up on all drives. I did this because my first drive crashed never to work again. That will never happen again. He said hopefully. |

I am after all having "one of those days". Some time ago I mentioned my girlfriend, Brenda, who was going through chemotherapy. Well, she came through that with flying colors and then went on to have a bone marrow transplant as well as an extra precaution. She seemed to be doing fine, the cancer was gone and she, as well as her doctors, expected her to make a speedy come back. Well, a few weeks ago I called her to check on her and never heard back from her. I spoke to her husband (Paul) and he said that she was not doing well. Apparently the tumors had reappeared and since then she has gone quickly down hill. According to Paul she has chosen to stay at home and they have called in hospice to help her. They have given her 4-6 weeks to live. It's very hard on Paul and their daughter, Kate; Brenda is withdrawing from them emotionally and shutting them out, which is most likely her way of trying to make the break easier for them and her. It's just a heart breaking situation and she is only 54 years old. Yesterday I was joking with someone about my upcoming birthday in June and I said I have two and a half months left to be 46 and I am hanging on to every day! The irony hit me when I realized that two and a half months is longer than my friend has to live. It's literally a life time to her. I guess I am just feeling a little bit in shock and denial over it all, and of course thoughts of your own mortality haunt you at times like this. It's made me aware of how important it is to just stop and enjoy the moments of our lives. Don't sweat the small stuff, and it's all small stuff, as long as you have your health, you've got everything! |

I have often wondered how I would handle knowing that I only had a few months to live, and I don't think I'd do very well. God bless her for wanting to be at home, though she is defeating the object if she is indeed shutting down emotionally. I pray that she can see the light, and make the most of her loved ones while she can. You are right about our age, it's of no consequence when you look at the big picture. Let's enjoy every day for what it is; and opportunity to love and be loved. I will remember Brenda in my prayers. And I will remember you too, Diana, we are here to cheer you up. |
