Krissy, don't you know about the time you play the lottery to really win, you never do it seems like..I could give you the $1 and call it that if you'd like. Save you the gas money going to get the ticket. LOL.

I wasn't sure where else to post this so I decided to use this old thread.  I am after all having "one of those days".

Some time ago I mentioned my girlfriend, Brenda, who was going through chemotherapy.  Well, she came through that with flying colors and then went on to have a bone marrow transplant as well as an extra precaution.  She seemed to be doing fine, the cancer was gone and she, as well as her doctors, expected her to make a speedy come back.

Well, a few weeks ago I called her to check on her and never heard back from her.  I spoke to her husband (Paul) and he said that she was not doing well. Apparently the tumors had reappeared and since then she has gone quickly down hill. According to Paul she has chosen to stay at home and they have called in hospice to help her.  They have given her 4-6 weeks to live. It's very hard on Paul and their daughter, Kate; Brenda is withdrawing from them emotionally and shutting them out, which is most likely her way of trying to make the break easier for them and her. It's just a heart breaking situation and she is only 54 years old.

Yesterday I was joking with someone about my upcoming birthday in June and I said I have two and a half months left to be 46 and I am hanging on to every day!  The irony hit me when I realized that two and a half months is longer than my friend has to live.  It's literally a life time to her.

I guess I am just feeling a little bit in shock and denial over it all, and of course thoughts of your own mortality haunt you at times like this.

It's made me aware of how important it is to just stop and enjoy the moments of our lives.  Don't sweat the small stuff, and it's all small stuff, as long as you have your health, you've got everything!

Sorry to hear about your friend Diana, she will be in my prayers;-(

Very well said, Diana.  I will remember Brenda in my prayers too.  And you too.

That is sad news Diana. I don't know how people deal with a death sentence like this hanging over them - knowing they have just so many weeks or days left - and all the pain to suffer. Some seem to pack lots of last moments in, some withdarw like your friend - I think both ways people are hoping to ease the way for their loved ones when the time comes. I will pray for her too Diana - and for you as it it is hard to lose a friend.

Thank you Ruth and Stephanie. Your words of comfort really do help.  One just feels so powerless in times like these.
