The Black Country dialect has been researched and is very near to early Middle English and Germanic. Some examples of words and expressions are Tay - meaning tea Pays or paes - meaning peas Bostin - meaning great Ow bist? - meaning how are you? The cut - the canal Black over Bills muthas - meaning bad weather coming He doe arf spake funny - meaning can't understand his accent On the box - meaning off work sick and my husband's favourite - Yo gorra faice larka bulldog chewin a wassp - meaning are you in a bad mood! I'd like to hear some of the words and expressions from your local dialects! |
