I hail from the southern US and although my family still live there and speak with heavey southern drawls, I never picked it up.  In truth I hated the southern accent and worked very hard not to pick it up.  Although, if I am honest I sometimes catch myself saying certain words in a typically southern way. LOL!

I have lived in Boston for fourteen years now but I've never picked up that accent either.  Most people think I am English believe it or not.  Well, except for the British who can tell right away that I am from the US, though most can't quite from which region.

Thanks Wolf - that's lovely!

It's one of our wedding pics from Hawaii. Thought it was time I got a bit older - but it's still 13 years ago!

When we got married in Hawaii Diana all the Americans thought we were Australians because of our strong accents!

Hi Stephanie:  We met a guy from London last winter who some of the people I was with guessed Australia. The Australian accent is way closer to the British than the American is.

By the way, I don't have an accent.  Just that flat, boring, nasally American whatever it is.  I never tire of hearing the British Isles accents.  They're much more musical and colorful.
