I have an Oxfordshire accent, not the posh Oxford but country.

Having moved to the States I had to slow down my speech and pronounce words clearer in order to be understood, so I can speak very proper at times. Get me with my family and friends though and I'm country.

I had a friend from 'up North' (as we call anything North of Oxford) in the Black country , and I could barely understand him.

My Grandad was the best - he used all the proper old dialect - bisn't, cosn't etc - it was fascinating to hear him and my Dad who swapped back to a very broad accent when they were together.
