I expect that we will be able to respect each others opinions without becoming argumentative as in other controversial threads. Having said that, I too think it's an immoral profession, however, prostitutes are going to keep selling themselves as long as their are buyers, so we might as well make it legal with strict laws governing the practice while we are trying to find a viable solution to ending the profession. Let's face it, most prostitutes suffer with STD's which they pass on to their clients and unborn children. Clients in turn pass these diseases on to their unsuspecting, innocent partners etc. Make it mandatory that each practicing prostitute pay for regular medical examinations (including drug tests) proving that they are disease and drug free. A certificate of a clean bill of health must be posted (just like any other business where health regulations must be observed). Make condoms and other safe sex practices mandatory. Make it illegal for anyone under a certain age (say 25) to practice in the profession. Create a licensing board that one must apply to in order to get a license to practice. Impose a mandatory one year waiting period between applying for a license and the granting of said license. This would give the person considering going into the trade time to reconsider their choice. If they decide after that one year anniversary then they must pay hefty fees to become licensed and they must agree to become sterilized to prevent pregnancies. Let's make it harder for prostitutes to practice and harder for clients to get access to them. |
