"If you pray for rain long enough, it eventually does fall. If you pray for floodwaters to abate, they eventually do. The same happens in the absence of prayers." Steve Allen "Prayer is of no avail. The lightning falls on the just and the unjust in accordance with natural laws." Robert Ingersoll "Nothing fails like prayer." Anne Gaylor I'm sure prayer can have beneficial psychological effects on the person who is praying. Other forms of meditation can do the same kind of thing. But as I don't believe there's a God listening to your every word, and waiting to do whatever it is you want him to do, I find I have to agree with Anne Gaylor. |

Posts: Joined: 1st Jan 1970 | Why, thank you for that, John! I have just spent a pleasant few minutes listening to this lovely song. Yes, I was a mere whippersnapper, ten years old. A man can no more diminish God's glory by refusing to worship Him than a lunatic can put out the sun by scribbling the word, 'darkness' on the walls of his cell. ~C.S. Lewis, The Problem of Pain PLEASE John, no youtube link to five minutes of 'The Blind Watchmaker' by Mr Dawkins! I've seen it and remain underwhelmed! I I find I have to agree with C.S Lewis. |

I can just imagine his tears as he thinks of you! Not trying to be righteous, Just have such a strong faith in him that I can sometimes get a glimpse of his sadness. I prayed about all of this and have gotten back a feeling that cannot ever be denied even if I wanted to! |

I have a decent, comfortable life. I have a wife, friends, work that (most of the time) interests me, a dog who thnks I'm the bee's knees... I don't need the love of a God I can't believe in - although I appreciate the fact that many people find such a belief essential. Sue, I'll always be grateful to C.S.Lewis for Aslan etc. - but his theology was a mess. |

Those things are all very important too. Happy that you have them in your life! |
