Lyn - I can really empathise with you I lost my nephew back in 1997 also in a motorcycle accident, he died instantly just four months before his 18th Birthday, he too was blameless just an innocent victim of a tragic accident, it was at this point I realised that thing’s like this didn’t just happen to other people but can effect your own family. During the two years that followed his death I lost my sister in law, Nana, uncle and my beautiful niece who died so suddenly and unexpectedly of an undetected heat condition leaving behind her baby boy who was then just a few months old, she was only 22. My husband was then diagnosed with a life threatening condition, I seemed to spend those two years so low that I never thought I would recover, but, I did, I’m not sure that I came through those awful days a stronger or better person but I do now realise what a gift life is, I never take anything for granted and try to live each day to the full, I do still get very down at times, but like you said, at least I’m still alive.

Lyn B. God bless you!  My heart goes out to you. After the death of his his daughter, Jean, Mark Twain, to console his grief wrote:

Stormfield, Christmas Eve, 11 A.M., 1909.

JEAN IS DEAD!

Has any one ever tried to put upon paper all the little
happenings connected with a dear one--happenings of the twenty-
four hours preceding the sudden and unexpected death of that dear
one? Would a book contain them? Would two books contain them?
I think not. They pour into the mind in a flood. They are
little things that have been always happening every day, and were
always so unimportant and easily forgettable before--but now!
Now, how different! how precious they are, now dear, how
unforgettable, how pathetic, how sacred, how clothed with dignity!

The piece can be read in it's entirety here: The Death of Jean by Mark Twain
