The village church was down a windy narrow lane, yellow lines kept the lane free of parked cars until Sunday, when the lane would become congested due to the churchgoers parking illegally during the coarse of the Sabbath day service.

As a little boy I recall asking my Dad why the owners of the cars were parking outside the church making the lane almost unusable. My Dad told me the people in the church were probably praying for forgiveness and we should forgive them as they know not what they do.

I didn’t understand what he meant at the time but now I smile when I think of his words.

What were you told as a youngster that has stayed with you all your life and makes you smile?

Hi Mick, I remember years ago, a teacher saying 'Stear, you will never make anything of yourself'. It gave me the drive and energy to try prove him wrong....Sadly though, in the event, he was right!

My Grandmother had a good one,"Its too far from your brains to hurt". Even if you just got a heavy whack on the head she would say, "It is too far from your brains to hurt". But it always did. Lol
