Jason...ask your GP for Tamiflu.  US has released 25% of their stocks of anit-viral meds..( Tamiflu )to various states..  Do you have the N95 masks in your kit?

Anna we don't really have much at all, we have equipment for terrorist attacks! and have full CBR suits, but these are just impractical to work in on a daily basis! what i do know is the authorities were expecting this! I have read a lot of documents regarding flu outbreak.

I'm not sure how effective tamiflu is either, i'm no expert on it, i've not read up on it, but from my understanding the flu is very hard to fight of via drugs. I'm also quite sure tamiflu would cause problems of its own with side effects?? not sure you may know more than me? I'm not sure how it works on the system, i'll look it up now!Smile

The masks are effective, but by the time we have realised a possible case, its probably to late, we will have been into the house, seen the patient, and had to listen to whats wrong with them, too late to start putting on masks then really. I'd say 70% of the houses we visit are dirty stinking pits, very bad hygiene, so we would have to put the masks on every job! it would be impractical. I do feel for the elderly we visit, as we may well become carriers ourselves, despite hand washing etc... and obviously the elderly and sick are the most vunerable.

There is a data tech web searcher in Kirkland, Washington, USA~ already had a handle on the H1N1 virus outbreak and notified clients, CDC and WHO..

Data I have read so far, declares that Tamiflu anti-viral is effective with H1N1 type virus....this was shown in the Avian Influenza event. Of course, any virus will change ( mutate ) to suit its longevity plan.. so Canadian bio-med folk are considering a large production of Tamiflu or other anti- viral, but this would put the so called ordinary flu innoculation productions on hold...

Jason.. until this blows over, I strongly suggest you AND co-workers wear the N95 mask at the outset of the intervention no matter the scene..
