I was reading about this in this mornings paper; it's rather frightening, I have to admit. The paper said that the first and best defense is to wash your hands frequently. Of course, if one is sick one should stay home and not be out and about, however, we know how that goes. If it comes to New England, I will be one of the first to wear one of those masks!

OMG. I'm home sick today!  Could it be the dreaded swine flu?!?  Tongue out

Just kidding of course, but I have a really bad cold that started on Friday and today,  I'm totally drained.  But I thought I'd do my co-workers a favor and stay home.  I don't have any aches or fever, so I don't think it's flu, although I've already been sick twice since December and had fever both times - but Dr. tested me for flu and no, I didn't have it then either.

The flu is of course, nothing to mess around with and there are many who are truly at risk when they get it - the elderly (which I ALMOST am but not quite), little children and those with compromised immune systems.  Just regular, plain old influenza without an exotic adjective kills 36,000 people per year in the US alone.  I don't know how many die worldwide, but I'm sure the figure is staggering.  But I also think it's important to not freak out and over react.  Best thing is to take care of yourself and get plenty of rest.
