Thank you for your input, because I find this very disturbing and all too often people don't even want to discuss it. But discussing it is exactly what we need to do, because if enough people get angry about it, changes will occur...ever how slowly. I take a very unorthodox view of God and his place in all of this and no matter what I say I am always upsetting the apple cart of one camp or the other! LOL! But here goes: I believe that our planet and all on it is the result of evolution deliberately executed and guided by the hand of God (I won't go into specifics because this is not the thread for it, but the statement is important to my comment). I believe that at some point humankind became a creature of moral will and understanding, at that point God endowed us with an immortal soul (this is all terribly simplified but again this is not the thread for elaboration on religious cosmology). With this came free will. Once the gift of free will was bestowed, God really had no option but to take a back seat and let us captain the ship so to speak. That is the point of free will; we have the capability of making decisions and executing those decisions be they right or wrong, good or bad. But while God may not interfere with our choices, I don't believe that he is not interested in our choices, nor do I believe we will escape scott free from the consequences of our actions, whether we pay the piper this side of life or on the other side. My issue on the topic of this thread is not with God and "why" He allows such things to happen. We (individuals) make the choices to do what we do and behave the way we behave. God gave us life, free will, a conscience to guide that free will, and a planet to live upon, how we manage all that has been given us is our problem, not His. We get so righteous and indignant at God for not "stepping in" and doing something about the mess we've created but we are the ones who chose to ignore the warning signs and take action to prevent such problems. Why is that God's fault? To the topic of thread; we allow pedophiles and angry violent people to hide behind the cloak of religious orders (not to mention schools, day care facilities, and other institutions) and then hold God accountable for what we have allowed. Did God tell us to build religious institutions and endow them with power and authority and worship them like they were God himself? They exists because it is part of our religious and social evolution, God did not create them. If we don't like what we have created then maybe it's time for us to change the evolutionary course of our religious lives. I just get so tired of the general lack of personal responsibility that the human race seems so willing to embrace when it comes to such things. It's always, pass the buck, who can I blame for this mess? The bottom line is that people created this mess and it's up to us to look this evil in the eye and obliterate it. I for one think we are far too sentimental about life. I have no problem with the death penalty for unrepentant criminals who abuse children and rob children of their rights to a safe, nurturing, and loving environment to grow up in. I say, terminate them all, make the world safer for children, and take the money we spend on housing (in prisons), feeding, clothing, medical care, etc., to protect these criminal offenders and use it to give these poor needy children the care they deserve. Sorry, I'll stop my tirade (at least for now) and sit back and wait for the flack! LOL!!! |

But what is it going to take for change to happen!? Can the everyday citizen do anything? And if so, what can we do? At what point do we take it into our hands? SOMETHING has to be done, and done quickly. It's us against them. What can we do? |
