I agree with Sue, Ron.  I think if you or Chris or Sarah want to correct the spelling on picture titles, that’s your call to make.  And yes, POE is about England and should be reflected as such.  I will try to remember to use English English spelling on picture titles.  As for posting, I’m too old to learn how to re-spell.  I learned, excuse me, learnt how to spell a long time ago and it’s true – you guys (sorry, you lot) will definitely have your work cut out for you if you try to make postings error free.  One thing I disagree with though, is changing picture titles.  It’s OK to fix the spelling, but the titles should not be changed.  A lot of the time titles are not just the name of the place, but part of the art of expression in the piece, just like titles for paintings or novels or songs.

If I hadn't changed the title here...  http://www.picturesofengland.com/England/Oxfordshire/Abingdon/pictures/1100204 it would still read 'Another fabulous thatched house approaching Abingdon' when in fact it was a fabulous thatched house in Clifton Hampden!

As soon as I saw the picture I knew the title was wrong, but approved it fully intending to drop you a quick email to confirm my thoughts. However, the ever present 'Mr Knowledge' was looking in (Paul for those of you who don't recognize my description) and wrote to me this morning telling me same. Therefore the 'title' has been changed accordingly. I rest my case!! Lol

OMG ... what a can of worms we seem to have started.  However, if you recount, i think you will see when people agree with you, it's a point for your side; when they agree with me, you put them on the fence.  LOL.  Hmmmm, what's wrong with this picture?

My only point, really, is that we are all speaking English ... British English or American English ... i think we all understand each other and simply do not feel the need to reinsert the "u"s or change the "z"s back to "s"s.  If someone does not understand that a sweater is a jumper, then they can ask.  I enjoy seeing the differences in our regionalisms and don't think they should be altered.

By the way, in the other post, i meant that koalas "eat" eucalyptus, not "each" then.  Only Pooh bears eat honey, by the way. LOL.

Evey, glad you found it but surely you can see adopting 'American' English and allowing it to persist over a period of time the website would begin to lose it's identity?

Anyway, the decision is not mine, although I have to say that a decision has not been made or yet even discussed. I merely change the spellings to reflect the 'England' English and will continue to do so unless told otherwise by Chris and/or Sarah

Sweater and jumper that you quote is not a good example but color and colour is.

By the way bears do eat honey but prefer vegetation. It seems they enjoy feeding on the larvae in the honeycomb, a rich source of protein! Na, na, nana, na...Lol

I don't think there's really a lot to be done, changing words to 'English', i don't think is right, and may even be interpreted as racism, I know Ron doesn't mean it like this, but hey, you know lots will!!

Spellings are different throughout the world, and this is a website broadcast to the world, have we really got the right to say ....do it our way.... or your wrong?? i don't think so.
