Perhaps being a supporter of one of the other bunch who purport to run the country in the disastrous manner that they have. At least the BNP face the facts. Americanism's....one word today, two tomorrow and so on, where does it end? The way I see it I was schooled to write and understand English, it's the only language I know and therefore I know when a spelling in England, referring to English content is incorrect. England is losing it's identity daily without people throwing themselves from the nearest bridge in support of the PC brigade. And yes the PC brigade haunt the life out of me. It's a disgrace the way the minority manage to make the decisions (probably due to the rest of us being lazy, such that we don't attend meetings) that will eventually destroy our way of life entirely. I am not trying to 'bring in rules' they are there already. The POE Terms and Conditions say write in English! So not a case of 'my way or no way' as you suggest, and neither would I attempt to cajole you into following a particular religion as you seem to suggest. For what it's worth the Brits are least religious compared to the Americans for example, did you know that and when did you last go to Church to worship God Jason? If you like I can go back and pick out bits from some of your previous posts that could perhaps be viewed in a different manner. You see it really is all about freedom of speech, which is something else to which you refer. Take note, nobody is stopping you from saying anything on this website forum as long as it is family friendly. You have an opinion, I respect that but don't try to change my way of thinking! Remember, I am certainly not limiting your freedom of speech, I am however correcting spellings that refer to England and the English way of life, the English countryside! An opinion is one thing, an incorrect spelling is quite another.

2. Please! you really think so? And i think, as was said earlier in this thread, its called American English! still English? 3. I don't!! never said i did, religion annoys the hell out of me, causes more problems than anyhting else, religions generally = intolerance of any other way.
4. Yet. 5. How could i possibly 'change' the way you think? i'm certainly not that powerful! I'm merely disagreeing with your opinion! |

There's an new dictionary out Ron, don't know if your aware of it or not, but its one for the "now" generations of the words people have changed to suit different meanings, I think they call them colloquialisms, or something like that. Somethng like the word, "cool" meaning chilling temperature.."kewl", meaning "an startling event" As Americans came from all walks of life nationally, we have adopted many words and altered them an bit to fit into the general populace. People over here are getting "miffed" these days, because its not that people are saying over "American" ....as it is HIspanic-American...African-American, "European-American, Native-American and so forth. They feel this new emphasis on what kind of an "American" is wiping out our country. In fact I was reading yesterday in the paper that what the nazi's were trying to do to Britain in WWII to whip out your economy (they failed) is much the same technique as what the bankers have done with our Government by loading down society with excess printed money...that has no backing basically.I'd say there's times to be traditional perhaps. Times not also. You kind of have to weigh each thing as it comes on its own merit...in true fairness. My parents knew an gal that was an English war bride when I was an kid, sometimes it took her some explaining to us what she meant but we liked her and found her way delightful to her personality.Kind of like the blonde that painted the guy's porch..oops I mean Porsch...an cute joke. Now you see Lenna comes into another web site I'm in and tells us what to discuss, and how to discuss it, gets us all riled up and then leaves...the thread is now hardly being used...no one is posting. |

The argument above doesn't have anything to do with you or anything you said. Ron, I don't think you need to fear that POE will lose its English identity by having a few people who don't spell correctly in the forum. (Actually the way we Americans spell is quite correct for us and the way we were taught, just as the way you were taught is correct for you). But if you want to correct my misspellings, go for it. This site is quintessentially English (that's why we love it) and the forum is only a very small part of the site. It's the Pictures of England that are the website for the world who surf in, and no one could ever mistake the beauty here for anything but the British Isles (IMHO). |

Whether he or I agree is another matter but it doesn't mean we are fighting in the playground! The fact is that all forums need discussion and about all subjects to keep it interesting. And lets face it, it would be pretty boring if we only ever discussed the 'good things in life'. I listen to BBC radio daily from where the subject titles normally come, and because they are topical it allows the members to air their views, which in turn keeps POE in this case, at the top of it's game. Remember, it's all about discussion and opinion!! |

Evey, you really don't need to apologise for anything, it's what the forum is for, as long as it remains family friendly. |
