Ricketts - the kids bones are not maturing properly, we really do need to think about this don't we?

What say you members?

They used to say that ricketts was caused by a lack of calcium - do any children drink milk now or only fizzy soft drinks??

Presumably children need to run around and get exercise (sports/PT).  Hasn't this been dropped from the school curriculum??  When do their bones get strengthened if they do no exercise.

Kids these days have horrible diets and no excercise!! I think it's worse than ever!! All these kids do is play video games and stay on the computer! And the junk that's out there for the kids to eat is the worst!

BUT...they make it very difficult to fed your family with the best foods! It's so so so expensive!

I hear now of families having "No screen" days or weekends. That includes no TV, computer or anything! I think it's a great idea and I should try it out!

From what I hear on the News updates here Krissy, it's not so much about food (although they need vitamin D) it's more about sunshine, or the lack of it!

It's no surprise! I remember getting up on a Sat morning, eating breakfast then out the door for the rest of the day!! In any season too!!

They need 30 minutes every day as a minimum as I understand it, sunshine that is, rather than just being outside. However, I suspect just being outside would help enormously because they will then come in and eat their tea, feel tired and sleep at night! What do you reckon Krissy?

Krissy, I am with you. I too remember spending most of my free time out of doors playing. No home computers in my day; and TV was an evening thing only.

Many kids today don't bother 'asking' what they can or can't do...they just do it. They live their own life at the age of 8....and when I've been out about town....it shows !!!  I love kids...don't get me wrong...but I have become intolerant of some of the behaviour that is allowable nowadays. I am not expecting kids today to be like kids of Victorian eras..but ...it is it too much to expect them to be human  or act like humanoids LOL...

Saw them the other day wating for the metro trains....swinging on the gates, running / jumping over tops of railings etc...and they were maybe 8-10 yrs old.....yet if you say anything or address them in any way....YOU are the victim...First by the kids and 2nd by the parents of the little darlings !

Spare the rod ?   LOL....have a few thoughs on this one !

They used to say it was a lack of calcium, hence the reason all school children were given a small (3rd of a pint) bottle of milk in their school morning break after the war (WWll). This was stopped in the 70's by Margaret Thatcher (nicknamed 'the milk snatcher') when she was Minister for Education, prior to becoming the Prime Minister.

I agree, the children and young people of today do seem to be looking paler and weaker in comparison to 30 years ago.

I hated that milk Mike! In the summer it was turning sour and in the winter it was frozen and I only found out years later that I am lactose intolerant anyway, lol.  No wonder I hated it.  Laughing

I am sure that at some stage I heard that PT/PE was no longer part of the school curriculum.  Is that correct?  Do the children still have sports at school?
