Shirley - that is so sad - I just hope those poor women do not now get disowned by their families because they have been "defiled". There is so much about them being covered all over - men's orders - then they do something like that!! Unbelievable. On a happier note I do hope your Portland Parade goes well. One of my contacts on Flickr has been helping to build the floats so I have seen some of the photos - they are magnificent!! Have a good meeting Ron & Syd! Thats really great that POE folks can meet up like that! Time the Boozers Club had a meet!! |

I think what fascinated me the most about the "sister cities" is their lively costumes. Particarly the things they can do with fine sheer fabrics....one group had long streamers on fans...and as they went out went from an sea blue out to an white..like foam would be...thier contribution was girls in sequined "boats"and the other dancing girls hovered around them with these fans flying...it looked like they were in sea waves...another group took huge rose pertals...from bring pink out to an light pink at the tips, and as they swirled they looked like roses in full bloom. The most articlate costumes were those from Mexcio that I mentioned before. Parades these days are really costly and there are not as many full flower floats, but they do an good job on the ones they do have. this year's theme was rocks and roll....but no where was the "King" Elvis Presley there..it would of been nice had the "FlyingElvis" group been on an float. Or even some well known singers of the era...but not. Thye took this thime in different ways also I noticed, the Native Americans took it to keep the " rocks" sacred. As they use them often for things like starting meditation prayers. But it was an good parade..one another 2 hours long. By tomarrow, except for an few events until the end of the month, most of it will be gone for this year and the next event is the Waterfront Park annual Jazz Blues Concert and food donation for the Oregon Fodo bank. Cathyml..want to read an "eye-opener" on the middle east...read the book called "Princess" on how maniputlalted for thier wealth most women over there are and made to endure with. Many are still nothing more as daughters sold off to the highest business arangment their fathers can make for them...reguarless of difference in age..How they depend on foreign slave labor, and I am not so sure that is not where many of our missing children are at and how thier mother's often sell their kids bodies for human body parts...often killing them...how little 10 year old girls can be sexually abused... and it goes on without an word of it being wrong. Of course your up-yo-date world knows this is wrong and contends it to be wrong....they know that women getting pregnant under 18 years old is at an real risk for death in birthing...at least in having her female sector torned apart and destroyed in the process. I have one KIng in England that bethrothed his 9 year old off...the marriage parnter was 21 and wanted to send her back...the Queen promised to sit in for her...but he refused...and so it was she died within an year later so he could officially remarry under better aspects. so some of this is world-wide by traditions that NEED replaced. So women's rights are more over there about things then just being made to wear black scarves over their faces...if the men can understand that. Some Muslims in FRance coouple year back took and muslim womangoing to college and gang raped her for going outside her dormitoryafter dark, just to show her and remind her how women need to follow the rules to be "safe"...well, it should be that anytime an woman is in the public she should be "safe"...and men should keep thier hands off of them and behave decently. I would think the holy and and God would agree also. Crime is not protection...it is crime upon that of another person bodily. If you will remember there has been such acts mentioned in the bible before...and God didnt' think highly of it. Anyway...I get going for now..it is now back to completely overcast skies outside...people were smart this morning through and many took their fold down tent canopies and put them up along the street to sit under in lawn chairs reguardless of the weather. Hum, I see tire tracks on the street so it's lightly raining now. When does summer start and not an scorcher of it either....Talk later on. |

(LOL) I enjoyed the IOW imensely with my friend Ros and hope to go there again sometime when the wind isn't blowing so hard. It has great scenery for photography and is a truly lovely place with friendly folk everywhere. We were delayed returning due to the ferries running 2 hours late and finally arrived back in Wye (Kent) this morning at 10 past midnight. Lucky the A3(M) m25 and M26 were fairly quiet at that time so we made good time from Portsmouth to Wye (near Ashford). Still, it was a great experience and tomorrow I start my drive about. Looking forward to seeing you Ron! keep the kettle on for tea! I just hope the weather isn't too wet but as one can't control it I shall take what comes. See my latest pictures. I had to tag them all as being Newport because there isn't a general IOW heading available. Don't be mislead then because they weren't taken at Newport. Bye for now and stay well.

My excuse is that I was driving and concentrating on the traffic. Poor excuse I know but its the best I can come up with right now. Thanks for accomodating me by making it easier for this old geezer. I hope the weather is not too bad but will cope with whatever the weather Gods throw at me. Thanks for the good wishes Cathy I shall take care with Mr. Avis's car as I know her will max out my credit card if I damage it. Stay well all and I will be back as soon as I get connected again. Goodnight from Kent
