I do take your point Lyn and respect your opinion, I don’t think my photos show off any editing talents I have because I have so few. I think we are all a bit selective in how we show off England to the world anyway, there are places I wouldn’t dare go to let alone photograph. I just try my best to show England at it’s best, some shots I edit some I don’t. Every photo on here is special to the person who submitted it edited or not and I love looking at them all.

As I said on another thread, I only do a little contrast control, sharpening and maybe a touch of colour correction. Sometimes I correct converging verticals and maybe clone out a bit of rubbish that spoils a shot. I am of the school that thinks I should depict what is in front of me.
I have done some weird things for friends, like placing a dead relative in a photo with the living. But that was only because they wanted it. I entered a photo for a photo clubs evaluation, they said that the Lion that had a blade of grass in his mouth should have it cloned out. I refused, and was told that it wouldnt get anywhere in a competition because the grass spoiled it. I left the club and never returned. I dont intend to win competitions, just show others what I saw.

But as has been said by others, to each his own. If everyone thaught the same, it would be a boring world.

Exactly!

This thread is not a debate and we don't need to qualify ourselves, it's great that I like my pictures un-tweaked, and it's great that Tom, Lyn B. Peter, Jason and all enjoy photoshop and more so, are pleased with the results.

Now I have a confession. I was looking at my oldest son's graduation pictures, and there is this girl in almost of them, she was his cousins on the day girlfriend, but she is drapped all over my boy, and I'd love to edit her out   .

I always look at each photo as being a creation of the person who submitted it.  And like any other art, each person has his or her preferences for one type or another.  It's easy to tell the tweaked from the untweaked, but each photo is a stand alone piece as far as I'm concerned.  I've seen some that I thought were a little overdone in tweaking, but that's just my humble opinion.  I've also seen many others that I thought to myself, " that one could use a little work," incuding about 90% of my own shots.  Lyn B and Jason - I think for the most part that your tweaked photos are brilliant.

One way I cheat if I do a picture that's decently composed, but over exposed - convert to grayscale.  LOL

The only problem with Photoshop is when people try to make a poor shot into something (they think is) decent. I believe you still need to have a good shot to start with, then enhancing it to another level would be the best way to use it. It often makes a difference between sale and non-sale, so it is extremely important to me.

I love Jasons' and Lyns' pictures, even though it's obvious (to me anyway) that they have been enhanced. I've photoshopped one picture that I've uploaded on POE, just for the sake of it...to see if anyone would notice. Maybe I'm a bit old fashioned, but what my camera sees is left in the picture...ie. power lines, lamp posts etc.  As for purple/orange/ brown skies...whatever floats yer boat lol!! Mine are blue, grey or a mixture of the two, any skies I photograph at sunrise/set are left well alone by me, nature has produced them and that's good enough for me! But at the end of the day, as a premiership footballer once said, it's all down to personal taste, and let's not forget that photography is ART.
