Just love this "stick shifts" term rather than gearchange lever. !!

I did try an automatic (or is it auto shifter ?) but could not get on with it.

Me too Mick but a long time ago.....kept braking with the left foot and that is quite frightening.....stick with a stck shift and a bit of proper left foot braking, which will certainly come in handy on some of the Lake District roads next week ! ! !

Have you guys driven an automatic car with two accelerators, one each side of the brake pedal? Don't panic though only one of the accelerators can be down at any one time while the other flips up out of the way. We had two cars with that configuration, one a Clio the other a Peugot 106.

Dave, I found the auto was scary and very gutless, however it was a long time ago.  When are you setting off for the lakes ?

I could understand that principle if it helped you go quicker. The only thing I liked about automatics is the big brake pedal, you can jump on that with both feet......just be there is nothing colse behind...whoops!!!

Go on Saturday Mick, stop of at Asda in Kendal on the way to get shopping in then into the cottage 3pm ish and a couple of hour later take the camera (Anne can come as well) for a walk to make sure all the pubs are where we left then at Christmas. We may even be tempted so sample a couple of brews as well, we are on holiday after all ! !

Very serious, it was an adaption to enable my disabled daughter to drive as she only has good use of her left leg but driving these days is just too iffy with roads as they are nowadays.

I loved my automatic, had it for 10 years and now I have a manual (have to change gears!).  It really took some getting used to again!  Still would prefer an automatic gear box.

I envy you Dave going to the Lake District.  It was the last place we holidayed at before we came to SA.  Fond memories !
