Smithy Brow Ambleside Smithy Brow to the northern end of Amblesdside eventually leads to ' The Struggle' an amazing drive up to the Kirkstone Inn at the top of Kirkstone Pass. It also starts off with the Golden Rule.....probably the best pub in the village! Windermere from Loughrigg The descent from Loughrigg on the way back to Ambleside with Windermere in the distance. Much easier going down this side than going up the other. Stock Ghyl, Ambleside Stock Ghyl a long way from the falls just as it meets with the River Rothay by the Miller Bridger Ambleside. Why did the caterpillar cross the road? This little guy was only about an inch long and I almost stepped on him. He was about 4 feet into his 15 foot journey across the road and only afew secnds before I got to him at least 3 or 4 vehicles had passed, and all had missed him. Stepping stones River Rothay near Ambleside The well known stepping stones across the Rothey between Ambleside and Pelter Bridge on the Under Loughrigg Road. Here they are between 12 and 15 inches above the water lever here. A year ago they were 4-6 inches under! Farm gate near Ambleside A lovely old rusting field gate and post on the Loughrigg road from Ambleside to Rydal. Really like their idea of security around here. Ambleside wedding ! Noticed this wedding group on the way back to my cottage from the pierhead. A beautiful location off the Borrans Road, this field is the home to the historic Galava Fort remains and also sheep and cows......and their dubious remains, not to mention this lovely old barn. I shudder to think what the bride ended up with on her shoes..... I watched them cover more than 100 yards in which she and the photographers assistant, held the dress well above knee height.
