Hey, when did they ever get it right anyhow? Lol

Where tourists and travelers and people need help from the cold can go an stay overnight if need be or at least have soup and an warm place...ours are now open through March of next year. I guess I'm glad to have an big old woodstove in our downstairs. But here's some tips for those that need them...outside...keep an cardboard box around for weather protection...wear layers...and if one layer is foam all the better...just use duct tape to keep it around your legs...and be sure to wear it over clothing so if you sweat...it can wisk it from your body.If your outside..wear rain gear over it and more clothing underneath...this is proven to keep frost bite and freezing .limbs from developing in the most artic cold of weather.Hand warmers and body warmers can be purchased also...use them in shirts or pants with big front pockets and wrap an blanket over that and sit an read an book. Popcorn cans (empty ones) in your car...with candles in side of them to burn and an extra blanke, or sleeping bag can heat the car to where you don't have to use the motor for heating the car with, thus your gasoline..make sure and crack an window about an inch for air ventlation...keep candy bars for energy also during this time of travel...in case you get stuck somewhere until help arrives. Other thngs...heating your house...shut down the rooms and occupy one small room and then add your small heating element to heat the room...it won't cost as much as trying to heat the whole house. If yoru stuck in an apartment with no heat..take your bed mattress or blow up air matttreses and place them in an corner of an room like an "cube" with padding on the floor and mattress...then if possible put an matrress on each side of you and an larger blanket/comforter over the top...then everyone pile in...the heat from your breathe should keep you all warm..don't forget the family pets either. By placing your camp stove on the floor and if your near an window....using snow to melt in an pan will give you water if your water supply freezes also.. Here again several popcorn cans with candles in them can help raise the room temperature. This is an great way for parents of little kids to use quailty time by reading them books. Again wear several layers of clothing. Snuggle together.Whatever you do, your object should be to confine your heating and staying area.... to as small an area as possible....and the more of you.... the merrier it is to keep warm together. Remember the ground surface at lower elevations is warmer also...it takes less heat to heat up an room in an basement then upstairs. Hope they help...and all neighbors should check on the elderly in bad weather conditions..and help them if possible. As for here...we are currently under an flood alert for the weekend with as much as up to 7 inches of rain in the Cascade Mts. on the east side of Seattle...and less the further south you go..about two inches in Portland, Oregon they think...but are saying the Cascades by its elevations this storm could be dropping 6 feet to 18 feet of snow in the next two days. |

Infact, much of the snow that had been on rooftops and on the ground is now gone. It must have warmed up during the early hours of the morning, because you could hear all the snow falling from rooftops and it was the 'thunder' sound as it hit the ground. People walking past the house don't appear to be as frigid cold as they were in previous days, so I am guessing the temps are a bit warmer...but far from WARM lol....if the snow melts too rapidly, we can expect the flooded streets etc but thus far, will take what comes . Enjoy your day wherever you are. |

As for Oxford it's probably 7/8c right now which isn't at all bad. Frost last night but it soon cleared this morning. Grey sky all day and probably get some snow as a result of it warming slightly, hope not of course. |
