I personally think the two tier membership system that allot of sites use is quite fair, like Flickr for example, free membership for limited picture uploads and a yearly payment for the advanced membership, at least this way people like myself who upload allot of pictures and regularly use the forums would pay membership and those who upload no pictures or very few and mainly just use the forums get the free membership option, at least this way nobody who wishes to join is left out just because they don’t have the cash for full membership and the option to upgrade at a later date if you want to is always open. I started off with myphotoalbum.com on a basic free membership but soon upgraded my account to a paying member. Going way back to the original title of this thread “what if Google buy Pictures of England.com” well, I’m sure they will make many changes and one of those changes I bet will be a membership fee, again only my personal thoughts but I would rather pay a fee to hosts like POE who actually seem to care about hosting an excellent and informative site than I would to one of the big giants like Google who are only in it for the money. Jason- I would lend you that Tenner but I am donating it to a better cause…..POE |

Given a choice between paying a mambership fee to a good value site like POE, run by friendly caring people like Chris and Sarah, or winding up in the hands of someone like The Google-Monster, I know whichj I'dprefer, and I'm retty sure that goes for most of the members, certainly those of us who frequent these boards. |

Free for new starters so they can have a look around and decide if they like the site (or us mad people): with a membership fee for those who want to upload more pictures, and regularly post to the Forums. Perhaps Ron can give an opinion on whether Chris and Sarah would be likely to consider/accept the idea. It would in all fairness have to be their decision in the final analysis. |

I'll be back in a while. |
