You been watching TV too?  Makes them very visible to predators too.  Conclusion (of programme) survival of species more important than survival of individual.  Short but pretty life.  Seems a bit unfair to me, prefer a long and happy life.

Yes I know, I agree with what you 2 are saying  and I also agree with what wolf said... 'clinically disect romance or loving feelings and study the effects in a test tube , does not do it for me'. Or am I losing the plot here? anyhow thats it from me in this thread.

I was referring to his beautiful feathers, John. No video, book or scientific jargon will make the slightest difference to my beliefs. It goes a lot deeper than that.

I know you were referring to the peacock's beautiful feathers, Sue.

The link I gave you starts with the following question:

Why does the peacock have such a beautiful tail?

The video answers that question.

What about evidence? Will no evidence make the slightest difference to your beliefs? If not - why not?

If it's TRUE that we can explain why we feel the things we feel in terms of natural, physical, real-world processes - isn't that wonderful? Doesn't it open whole worlds of understanding?

No, I don't think it's wonderful. If it's true that God is love then I expect it to have a spiritual component and I expect it to be a mysterious as He is. But to each their own, and if such thoughts bring you peace and comfort then by all means exercise your choice of free will to believe it.Smile

Seems to me the root of our different views lies right here, Diana.

I think it's wonderful that we are finally at a point where scientific knowledge is on the verge of explaining how human beings came to be what they are.

You think it's wonderful that human nature (filtered via your notion of God) remains a mystery.

Is that a fair summary?

Lyn, Wolf is saying: to clinically disect romance or loving feelings and study the effects in a test tube , does not do it for me.

I'm saying the opposite. The scientific study of such experiences does do it for me.

I want to know why we feel the things we feel - love, hate, anger, joy, sadness etc.

I don't think religion can provide the answers.

I think science can.

OK, which one of you lot has been telling God about me?

I was up a ladder yesterday varnishing my log cabin, and he sent one of his minions to yank it out from under my feet. Broke my right wrist in three places.

Sorry to hear about your arm John. Here's to a speedy recovery.
