I think the prayers and the discussion and dare I say ' arguments' had run their course Sue R.  Unless that is someone wants to open a topic for opinions and disagreements.

Oh, I don't know, Wolf.  I might find something else to post here now and again.  Something appropriate to the site, non-judgmental, respectful, non-confrontational.  Like this for instance.

Heavenly Father, Help us remember that the jerk who cut us off in traffic last night is a single mother who worked nine hours that day and is rushing home to cook dinner, help with homework, do the laundry and spend a few precious moments with her children. Help us to remember that the pierced, tattooed, disinterested young man who can't make change correctly is a worried 19-year-old college student, balancing his apprehension over final exams with his fear of not getting his student loans for next semester. Remind us, Lord, that the scary looking bum, begging for money in the same spot every day (who really ought to get a job!) is a slave to addictions that we can only imagine in our worst nightmares! Help us to remember that the old couple walking annoyingly slow through the store aisles and blocking our shopping progress are savoring this moment, knowing that, based on the biopsy report she got back last week, this will be the last year that they go shopping together Heavenly Father, remind us each day that, of all the gifts you give us, the greatest gift is love. It is not enough to share that love with those we hold dear. Open our hearts not to just those who are close to us, but to all humanity. Let us be slow to judge and quick to forgive, show patience, empathy and love.

Nothing wrong with that, is there?  We need to be reminded sometimes, at least I know I do.

We call that 'giving the benefit of the doubt', Ruth, Lol...but you're right!

Sometimes we forget to 'do unto others...' and it's nice to be reminded that sometimes we are the 'others'.  Thank you Ruth.

I found this little prayer today in one of my books, written by the Scottish theologian John Baillie.  The "Ten Things You Love" thread inspired me to post it today.

I praise thee for the life that stirs within me; I praise thee for the bright and beautiful world into which I go; I praise thee for the earth and sea and sky, for scudding cloud and singing  bird; I praise thee for the work thou has given me to do; I praise thee for all thou has given me to fill my leisure hours; I praise thee for my friends; I praise thee for music and books and good company and all pure pleasures.

I think this is a great prayer and seems appropriate to what everybody expressed in that thread.

Whether you presently believe in the power of prayer or not, eventually, when one is about to meet their maker, it's amazing how quickly one turns to it.

Cheers,

Bob

Thanks, Ruth.  Both prayers are beautiful and worth remembering and repeating.

Thanks, gals.  Glad you liked them.  There are a million wonderful prayers, but when I post one here I try and keep it appropriate to our discussions.

When I give thanks to God for blessings received, it reminds me of what I once heard described as hell for an atheist.  It's being out in nature and having your breath taken away by a beautiful sunrise, or a mountain vista, or the song waves on  a beach, or a meadow of spring flowers, or a quick glimpse of wildlife - and not having anybody to  thank.
