I guess it depends on your belief system.  To me, no it does not make it right.  To me a life is a life in any form...human, animal, plant....and so on.

So is killing a human worse than killing an animal? and why??  don't worry, i'm not judging, just interested in peoples opinions!Smile

This is going to make me sound like a horrible human being and I hope my POE family doesn't think any the less of me for it, never-the-less, here it goes!

I love individuals, not mankind en-mass.  I have met some truly evil people in my life and would I have chosen my pet's life over theirs? You bet I would. However, if I had to make a choice between someone I love (like all of you here on POE) and the life of an animal, I'd choose your life.

I truly believe that human beings possess a soul that is individually and uniquely created by God, to reflect God's image. As much I could see personality in my Merlin, I don't think he had the same type of soul. So yes, as much as it may pain me, if I had to chose between the life of my pet and the life of a human being, I would choose the human being.

That having been said, there was an article in the paper this past Monday about a man who, naked except for a mask and latex gloves, had entered the home of a 17 year old girl through a window near the girl's bedroom. He had rope, condoms and a knife. The girl woke up, saw him and screamed. Her father ran into the room and subdued the man. When the police arrived the assailant was pronounced dead. He apparently had a heart condition and the struggle with the father caused him to have a heart attack. The would be rapist had served 10 years in prison before for criminal confinement and sexual deviate conduct.

I know this story isn't related to animals but I think this man deserved to die. I don't know what happened to his soul but I don't think he reflected God's glory anymore. If I had to choose between the life of a person like this or a pet, I'd choose the pet.

We do don't worry, its makes people very uncomfortable doesn't it talking about things like this!? I don't know which is more 'important' and deserves to live when one dies!! i really don't, i think its impossible to see the whole picture, and unless you can see the whole picture, how can you make a judgment on a life. its a sticky subject though.

It's true Jason, it does make us uncomfortable. Maybe we're afraid of being judged too harshly or turning people away because of our opinions?  It is impossible for us to see the whole picture and so we can only go by what's in front of us.

I have a "new age" friend who believes that the girl and the man I spoke about in my last post agreed, before incarnating, to experience this scenario together. Therefore, according to her, the man agreed to be a sexual deviant and a criminal and all of his victims agreed to be his victims because they wanted the lessons this experience would provide for them. I can't say I believe this but it is an interesting theory.
