Early morning for me, though my alarm went off at 1:30 AM and not 5 AM. Weird alarm week this week. My husbands alarm kept going off after he got up (at 4 AM), even though he had turned it off so it would wake me up. My son forgot to set his alarm yesterday, but I was around to wake him up, and then today, mine doesn't go off at all. Now I'm talking to my son in Korea. He should be home in MARCH.

Posts: Joined: 1st Jan 1970 | editPosted at 18:53 on 9th November 2011 Good morning..thought I'd better come in before they do this national communication testing at 11 am. Supposedly it won't hurt anything, f at most maybe have to reset the cable box. I still unplugged an few of our TV sets. I guess they started evacuating people in the small villages in Alaska along the coastline up there this morning...we have someone reporting from relatives there...this storm will be incoming next week possibly here or across the mid-west if not Canada also. they say Cat. 3 hurricane with the potential of 10 inches of snow if not more. They say the coast guard is already out there battling it with the fishing boats on the ocean. To take the boats to the docks with heavy icing going on... would sink them. Very trecherous conditions right now. I've discovered "English" cast iron stoves....how charming. I would like to do see them at an shop closer to downtown Portland. That or an "Nautical heater" like they heat boats with...just to see if they are an better deal then woodstoves these days. English stoves are quite elegant in thier design. I do think the Europeans offer much more choice of design in an way to heat the house with. When my dad retired...he put an woodstove on an pedstle in his dinind-livingroom and an fireplace in thier garage make-over into an family room...and it was open to the other area....and they moved thier bed into half of the family room as I winter so I can heat an area if I lose my electricity. For dad, we kids got together an went up to Mt. Hood and chopped them about 20 cords of wood and stacked it in the back yard. They shut thier furnace down...but kept it filled...it was oil..as an back up and had little in the way of an heating bill. We eventually had the snowstorm that shut off the electricity. Next year they bought their generator. With that they were "off the grid" so as to say. All we had to do after that was deliver the groceries and visit an bit with them in the process. Pretty much anything else.. we could call out to them ..to go to thier house..until the weather cleared. It's an great comfort in bad weather to know the seniors are "OK"...not to mention you have your own house to deal with then also. I am reading an paper article this morning about some guy hired to follow around celebrities and report on them and thier lives...one of them was Prince William. they apparently caught up with him and questioned him concerning British Security of "Spying". Grandson's didn't come in this morning so far..and probably good...they have now missed two days of school. Did you know that the Native Americans didn't beleive in paying homage to bad health issues...they saw it as an drain on thier tribes in over all economic strength to be ill...and where they moved an lot from place to place an strain to have to deal with the sickly. Tha'ts why they took Col. Butler out and tortured him to death... after finding out he was trading smallpox invested blankets.. given to him by our Govt to give them smallpox epidemics and kill them. I bet it wasn't an pretty picture what they did to him either. Their favorite trick was to pierce the skin with little pieces of wood slivers soaked in oil and pitch... and set afire. Tha'ts why "God" saw to it they lost thier leadership,,,and why the Govt. now supports them. Payback time. My hubby knows that I admire Thomas Jefferson..one of our countries fore-fathers so as to say. so he left this paper on teh table for me to read this morning....age 5..studied unter his cousin's tutor..age 9 studied Latine, Greek, and French...at 14 Studied classical literature and additional languages..at 16 entered the Colleg eof William and Mary...at 19 studied Law for 5 years under George Wythe, at 23 started his own law practice...at 25 was elected to the House of burgess in Virginia...at 31 wrote wrote the "Summary view of the Rights of British America" and retired from his law practice...at 32 was a Delegate to the Second Continental Congress...at 33 wrore the Declaration of Iindependence.......he also took 3 years ro revise Virginia's Legal Code, wrote a Public Education Bill and a Statuefor Religious Freedom....at 36 he became the second Govenor of Virginia....at 40 served in Congress fro two years...at 41 was teh American minister to France, and negoiated European treaties along with Benjamin Frankin and John Adams...at 46...served as secreatry of state under George Washington....at 53...served as Vice President and elected President of the American Philosophical Society...at 55...drafted the Kentucky Resoulutions and became an active head of the Republican Party...at 57 years old..became the third President of the United States....at 60 ...obtained the Louisana Puchase..doubling the size of the nation...at 61 elected to an second ternm of U>S. President...at 65 retired to his home at Monticello....at 80...helped President Monroe shape the Monroe doctrine...at 81...almost single-handedly created the University of Virginia and served as its first President....at 83 died on the 58th annimversary of the Declaration of Inependence along with John Adams...his life long friend. Thomas Jefferson knew what worked in Govt. because he himself studied what failed throughout time in attmepts to Govern others...he understood actual history also, the nature of God, his laws, and nature of mankind. That seems to be way more then what most understand today. Jefferson really knew his stuff. Yes, he fathered children by his nego mistress and secretary also...but he's not known for it as his only achievemnt in life. A voice from the past...John F. Kennedy remarked one time as he held an dinner for the most noted brightest minds in our nation.. said one time...This is perhaps the assembly of the most intelligient minds ever to gather at one time in the White House... with the exception of when Thomas Jefferson dined alone. I admired him because I have long seen that he took what he learned from other people, in all nations... an used it to his advantage by including it to fit his needs of better livabilty in his own hom an dnation. But he joins the most prestigious of mankind in common traits they all have...lack of ego...humanity toward everyone...justice and use of fair dealings...deep personal faith... and the love of learning...yes, he knew his history...but he also understood it. One of his quotes...The democracy will cease to exist when you take away from those who are willing to work and give it to those whom would not. (We are just about there...from Government to the business sector...big bonuses/benefits that are giving to those whom don't work and can't..... in the compacity of what they are collecting) This test i fjust about to take place now...nation wide..I have to go for now....have an good day! |
Sk Lawson Posts: 4014 Joined: 7th Oct 2010 Location: USA | Posted at 22:24 on 9th November 2011 I see lots of mispellings...I guess everything worked out "OK" on the communications testing...I left..did some more shopping...got sissy an wool 3/4 length dress coat at half price and an set of pj bottoms, some sports pants to pull over the top of them and an thermal top for each of the boys...for lack of clothes they got sent home the other day with the other half to this "set".. Namely the flannel plaid shirt for one and an sweatshirt with hood for the other...t-shirts and jeans.I try to do that you know...buy mix and match sets of clothing...so they can be year around and layered in the winter. I think this is the earliest I've ever done my shopping except for year around sale items. Not over doing things this year though...trying to be sensible about things. I could use an chocolate mocha coffee about now..though it's really strong coffee to me these days...as I don' t do much of it in coffee these days. They came out with an new line of soda pop using "Stevia" sweetner instead of aspertane...it is caled "Zevia" and an coupon came out through last weekend"s newspaper for $3.00 off on an 6-pak. I have yet to see if I can find it in the stores. Anyway...I see since I've written my short novel of the week, I can go now in peace..... and get about doing other thnngs needed done. |

But you would enjoy the weather - over 40 degrees centigrade and over 50 degrees if your car has been standing in the sun!!! |
