I know one thing...I don't belong to an home group...never have...and I was no where around in an library when I was posting. Hope things are going well for you Ron...I can't seem to get ahold of my hubby's sister Louise to see if she's still in the hospital with bleeding ulcers or back at her house...but she sure did sound great last time I talked to her, said she was being released the next day...but did not answer her phone today...I left the message to let us know how she's doing. She was due to be flying out to MIssouri when this hospital visit came up I guess. She's kind of the family "mama" now that the oldest sister is gone. She goes back there to find out the latest and then we have an get together here to see what she says is going on back there....if that makes any sense. Last time she did this, she brought us all obits from teh odlest sister...which for me being an family historian...is very vital records to keep. I not talk to long tonight...just stopped in to say "hello" to everyone. One thing after another these days. Have an good weekend everyone. |

All three parades will be televised this year...the highlights include...Packy the Elephant...whose as an "baby" was given her own song that made it into an hit song on the charts... by representation. is .the Grand Marshall of this year's Parade..first time ever for an animal..but say, at 50 year's old the old gal is "pregnant" this year...we honor her.She was an bit of an "wonder child"at her birthing for Portland. Other hightlights include delegations from all nine of Portland's sister cities in the Grand Floral Parade...they are...Ashketon, Isreal, Kaohstung, Taiwan, Ulsan, South Korea, Mutare, Zimbabwe, Guadalajara, Mexico, Khaharovsk, Russia, Sapporo, Japan, Suzhou, China, and Bologaria, Italy. Vancouver, B. C. is sending us thier oldest ship for the water front ship display...the Oriolo...who answered the call when the German Army over-ran Eurpoean Forces at Dunkirk, France..in May 1940,,, British Prime Minister Wiston Churchill put out an call to every ship that can float... to come an save the soliders...this ship beached herself..to allow deeper ocean ships to dock near her tail end and allow the soldiers to run her length into other ships for the rescue. More then 300,000 soldiers lived to fight another day from her efforts, as well as other ships heeding the call...they took on British, Belgian, French, Polish, and an small number of Dutch Troops. She joins "Fleet Week" for the Rose Parade festivites with two US Destroyers and four Coast Guard vessels....there will be 80 Dragon boat races pariticapting next to them in the Williattee River during the week...and of course they all enter Portland's Harbor amid the fire boats..spraying the ususal Red, White, And Bue plumes of water fountain spray ahead of them, and to thier sides.. as they escort them into their docking area and get docked into place for tours. Because this year the Parade opens up during Memorial Day weekend also...all uniformed military men, familes, Veterans and family of those killed in action in recent wars are allowed to attend the "city faire" carnival for free admission..all weekend long, and commences also with an special services March, speech and an moment of silence ceremony Sunday. New..Eight High Schools will compete in an choir at an Rose city sing off this year...an "Brewery Pub" was set up dowtown amid the park area and the city's famous roaming "Food Carts" are allowed to service the carnival and downtown areas during the festivites....the festival has restored it's living history display also..the Rose Fesitval is 105 years old..but the 100th anniversar for the Parade as it took time out from being suspended during the Depression years. An Mexican heritage Group is featured in the Parade this year also..the founder was living in New York when he moved to Portland 15 years ago...this group had special outfits beaded for $3,000 each depicting "Oregon" not their native Mexico for the Parade....though the rest of it is an Mexican heritage presentation. There will be 60 Chinelo dancers in thier costumes of Aztec Warriors winding through the streets in the parade....though his rendition of Oregon heritage scene costumes will lead the group....this is just an start to the car races, golf competitions, milk carton races, conintual bands playing on stage, the Hilton Hotel Royal Rostarian Centennial Grand Floral Ball, Rose cup car races, the 17th Far West Fibers Classic in Golf, three parades..and on and on it goes.., It should wind up in enough time for everyone to take the "Party" over to London for the Summer Olympics. Two people showing up in the music scene I've reacently see on "Dancing iwth the Stars" also...Smokey Robinson and Curtis Salgado...one will be at teh "Cityfiar" tomarrow..battle fo the bands will be Saturday June 2 and Smokey Robinson will be at Spirit Mountain Cascino whose the major sponsor of the Rose Parade now. we have plenty of horses involved also in this parade from eastern Oregon..to the Rodeo's in the state. Gesh Shirley...Wake up...it all starts "tonight"!....we should all be party out by the time my birthday rolls around on June 13th...we also have all the kids graduating from school during this festivial this year also. Now for the weather...if it will hold out for us somewhat. I decided on an Navy blue blouse and white slacks for sissy's graduation ceremoines at Sandy High School comng up. My sister in-law was buying clothes also for an " kindergarden" graduation as she and my brother leave for Eugene here soon to attend that one. Now you know what the grandma's and grandpa's do best in June. For some reason.... I already feel like I need to rest an bit some what...ha! Talk later on....have an good weekend everyone!!! |

(The Jubilee)....we didn't make it to the fireworks downtown last night...we an an storm cell came in from the north...we never have storms from the north except in winter and then seldom...well this one came rolling in with 24 lighting strikes about 6 to 20 miles north of us, by the time it got here was heavy dense rain falling...we stayed home.... drip drip drip.....but downtown Portland..17 miles away...they went on despite cloudy skies, it missed the fireworks apparently and saw some of them.... as they ended the News broadcast locally last night. My grandson came in to stay with us last night also. Spent most the night on my computer they returned "fixed". Cloudy today....but things are suppose to be better by next week. Grandson just left. I better get going also...kind of an slow going day now. |
