Who stole the Gettysburg Address?...are you kidding me?...I've been there... and and talked to the people whom have an nice long family legacy on how Abe Lincoln is related through the Todd family through his wife Mary Todd....to an John Lawson. Though I also have this family interrelated..part of my Larkins/Rogers line out of Massachusetts married into the "Flower" liine while the Lawson's married into the Fowler lineage...and they then both married into the Riley family. This fowler line is also supposedly related to Issac Newton in years back. ..and I question how much of it was also at one time the "Faquier" family in England.  Have you tried actor Nickolas Cage? We had an Scout family we knew by the name of "Getty" in the past....his father and freind hiked into our Summer Camp over near Bend one year...then hiked back out...by the time we got home...we found out the father had died instantly with an heart attack hiking back ...real surprise to us all.  He had no hisotory of health problems and was young. Kids eventually left our troop as thier lives had changed so dramatically in an short time after the father's death. My trip to Gettysburg was part of an summer long of connecting with various large scale historical renditions to bring back ot Oregon to discuss with the Govenor and Oregon Historical Society an propose idea on my ancestor. We had to have the townsfolk pass this before the Governor would give us the Lottery money to start the project and the Oregon Historical Society would step in andre-create and old time lumbering mill and frontier town. It would of includedthe renovation of the pioneer cemetary where my ancestor is buried..and also preserved all graves there..it would of added an Neil Goldsmidt Library...with added emphasis by the LDS Librarythat tis there now. WE would of needed the help the help of the townspeople in craft items to sell...and we planned on having some one do interpretive work in how logs are milled, in how wood is carved, in how wagons are made, and how log cabins are made and the furniture in them..soemthing akin, but diferntly then Colonial Williamsburg. My job on this trip...which I paid out of my own pocketthat year...was to find low cost ideas to help it along. When I got back, I presented the idea to the town leaders...and never heard from them...was side railed everytime I tried to contact the person I needed to talk to..and one year later find out he had been embezzling town funds...and of course would not want anyone poke around in his neck fo the woods...so as to say. The project fell through...though I was appraoch by some people on the west side of Portland about an rare historical Octogon shaped barn, they also wanted to playup hisotrically...i gave them ideas in an long letter and who to contact for help, but apparently they didnt' get anywhere either.  I had planned to make th town of "Mollalla" in vertiual "wagon wheel" lay out also...with spokes going into various ways fro state wide bus service to (1) other state Recreational Sites (2) Portland andSeattle and Salem ad Eugene..(3) Medical and Firemen Support(4)..Libraries to help people look for thier pioneer ancestor's also. (5) Local motel neede for vistior's and guests year around...with activities year around (6) I had found an musical group while upin Vancourver B. C. from DAwson that sang lumbermen songs Ithought would go over well in an stage production we could pairwith an Restruant (7) and animal Zoo of locale animals such as deer, beaver, bears and whtonot small animals (8) the Lumbermill and crafts and old time wooden boardwalk (9) Historical people walking around and volunteer teenagers wanting to help us from area schools...give them employement in an area strapped for money. Non eo fth si went through because of one man cheating in his area it's town citizens.

The idea  I saw from Gettysburg...and I talked to the man there whom was re-creating being Abe Lincoln, supposedly was Lawson lineage... they had two "ordinary" looking wooden carved replicas of people...and when they turned on an high powered movie projector on thier faces... and ran it...it looked like the people were "talking" and telling thier story of what happened at Gettysburg that fateful day. I thought of using it on an replica wagon ride where people could ride the Barlow Road into Oregon City...as the pioneers talked about their travels into Oregon.. So the lumbermill was to the east, (the one currently there was for sale) the Libaries and church to the north, the the park animals to the South...along with this Barlow Road ride...the Restruants and town reproduction acutally in the existing town. Entry into the reproduction areas to the east... Transporation and support facilties outside of town an bit in open fields....they have since then built an housing project there....that most likley can't compare with the money revenues my idea would of resulted in. So goes..I have this happen all the time with people force me into to doing things their way...they lose...not me.  Since then the " Oregon Garden" was built by all the nurserymen in the state south of Mollala in Silverton also. It took me considerable time to find out this guy was cheating. I also feel that the town itself hurts itself from what they say and do to others in ways...by that...I mean they are many times in the paper for not being of the highest of "truth" in doing things themselves. If perhaps they didnt' want the project there...they should of stopped squealing to me to help them all back in those days...I am beginning to think I was set up for an "rip off" to be discarded later on also.  As they say...you get what you earn eventually...in this case..nothing. I also was an member of the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation back then at the time also.

An small Native American " tipi area" would of looked nice in the animal zoo area....with perhaps fireside stories at night time...Salmon bakes.... and this is far enough away it would not have interferred with the annual Octoberfest festivites in Mt. Angel. No go..I still feel an bit bitter about it all....wasted time...wasted money in some ways.  Back then.... we had the money to make it truly an "Oregon" representation...now we do not...and probably never will.  But say...there's always drugs, unemployment and people up to no-good in the surrounding area even yet.
