I have only just managed to read what you posted here previously Shirley, but appreciate the trouble you go to in getting the health message to us, thanks! |
Sk Lawson Posts: 4014 Joined: 7th Oct 2010 Location: USA | Posted at 18:54 on 2nd July 2012 Yes, I have found out that not all doctors seem to be able to tell you the whole story in one's visit...I have tests to get done also...and with the Holiday having an problem doing that...have to fast before I go in. I do wonder why the cardiologist seems to get blood pressure readings of 160...when the local urgent care clinic gets 140 there and I get 132 on my home blood pressure equitment. That's almost an 30 point difference...quite significant. Feeling blah again this morning though. I could use Robin Hood an all his merry men this morning to help us clean up this 35 year old apple tree out back...branches all over the place. At least three trucks loads most likely to go to the dump. It's an mess. My sister called an wanted to know what I thought she needed in her macaroni salad...she's diabetic type 2. So I told her...you take the canned chicken and drain it...and flake it, then you add fat free mayonnaise..and bit of pickle relish, kidney beans..drained and washed, celery pieces and anything else you want... an mix it together...then to keep it low carbohydrate...they say to cook Pasta shaped like the "wagon wheel" variety...they puff up better after being cooked and it looks like your eating more (purely psychological you know)...then take out enough chicken/veggie mix for one serving and add 1/2 cup of the made pasta and stir and then chill it.. an add finely chopped green onion on top before serving. Serve with BBQ ribs. maybe some grilled corn and fresh fruit...like watermellon..grilled peaches.and if you have kids let's not for get the hamburgers and hot dogs. (July 4th doings) My hubby says to not forget the chocolate brownies either or the apple pie...or some knid of ice cream maybe afterwards. Eat that when your doing fireworks outside I guess. You know, I'm not much into foodfor some reason right now...I re-arranged my pantry while he cut that tree down yesterday..separating the cans of 2012 dates from those I've bought recently with 2014 dates on them. So I have an easier idea of how I stand going into this fall. It was an "job" yesterday and an half for both of us yesterday around here. I'm into no hurry to do much today. I guess I should get going for now..so have an good day everyone.... Glad to hear Cathyml is feeling better. |

I am sorry for Anna, it must be dreadfull having cramps, and worrying about her dad, i don't expect the stress helps either. |

Ron, us robbing a bank would make a change. Up to now its mainly been the banks robbing us! Stay well all. Nice and warm here tonight by the way. 27 degrees this afternoon and 15 now.I guess its warmer here right now than it is in Blighty! |
Sk Lawson Posts: 4014 Joined: 7th Oct 2010 Location: USA | Posted at 03:25 on 3rd July 2012 Syd isn't where your at in winter time now?....or as close as South Africa gets to such weather. Margie... Primrose oil is an excellent source fo Vit D3 I understand. Hubby still out there cutting that old diseased apple tree away...it took up so much room growing back there...that the elm tree branches grew behind the nieghbor's yard...sideways.Especalier trees are expensive to buy you know. Got my paint tonight for painting the chair...now off to get teh fabric for the seat tomarrow also...new chair. It's an comfortable one though. Headlines admit that this July 4th is kind of fizzing out...because most people have to return to work the next day...it will be 2014 they figure..or Friday...before anything is to much late partying going on.Having to go to work the next day, means not to many people will be traveling any where also. Weak ankles tonight...anyone for rubbing my feet?...LOL. I was informed that if I'd buy better shoes then "Sandels" I would not have this problem. I can remember when I went on my 6 week trip with my friend, and our kids... along the east coast, Massachuesetts to Florida and back to Oregon...we landed in Massachusetts and I bought myself an nice little pair of Italian shoes, and by the time we were done with upteen tours daily and walking...I was wearing shoes out to the tune of one pair an week..didn't matter how much I paid for them. As they say...What would Jesus Do?...he wore sandels also. |

For instance Johannesburg has been at around 2 degrees for weeks now, although it does warm up a bit towards lunch time. There has been lots of snow on the hight ground of the interior and right here where I live, 50 miles from the Indian Ocean, the early morning temperatures have been as low as 2. We could get sub-zero temperatures later this month and it has often snowed only 30 miles from here. So, yes, winter can be cold in SA. Hello POEsters all, I hope you're all well. |
Sk Lawson Posts: 4014 Joined: 7th Oct 2010 Location: USA | Posted at 19:35 on 3rd July 2012 Hi Syd..seems so funny to think of SA with snow...but I know they have mountains there and higher the alitude the more likely the snow Andy Griifth..use to be Sheriff Andy Taylor in the sitcom "mayberry" years ago passed on..he looked so much like my dad..unbeleivable.Remember some time back when I was reading an book about two guys on an motorcycle going from England through Africa...and you people told me they had an TV show over in England...well, I watched it last night here...or an bit of it.. I was also reading about taking asprins..as you know it's part of the heart treatment they give you...last year I thought I was getting to much of it...and I see you can do that also on Nsaids...well, if you do...you can get yourself into an case of "pepic ulcers"...you will know if your stomach bothers you.... and is relieved by eating something..and I am wondering in part if thats not my problem with my weight gain last year. So I started in yesterday with the 5 at least servings of veggies and fresh fruit...and they say to start with anything from the cabbage family...so started with frozen broccoli. See how that goes. Lesley and I are talking about "solar refrigeration"...I didn't know they had it....though I have an small pond out back for such emergencies. It would help keep things cool if needed...i need an water pump on it though..so it's running water to keep the quailty of the water always filetered. Another seer I read this morning saying that something is going to affect our food supply by this fall...to be stocking up NOW in canned goods. Lesley has already gone to her own type greenhouse...using an Home Depoe oustide storage building made out of wood...added an glass front facing south..and an small wood stove an an solar panel to it...heats two ways, but she' s at 7,000 feet elevation. Her project we were discussing most of last year. I know nothing of Solar, but she is running most of her ranch off of it...and her Ham Radio Shack, as she calls it...she has her own radio station. I like the do it your -selfer type people....always learn something from them that makes life and living an little easier these days. Big tadoo at city hall going on...this gal wants to admend the city into "districts".... with each councilman with one district...the mayor say "NO"..but as she claims...there isn't any progress going on in the city..and what could be by district... hasn't got an chance right now. One such thing was raising one's own chickens out of the main area area of downtown...it's hot right now to be doing this..and if your unemployed can add to the finances...as well as food. The Mayor said "no" because he was afraid people would not atttend to their animals properly...but ou tin our area....people not only use to have chickens, they had horses, cattle, goats and pigs and they know what it takes to do this succesfully...our area is not like the core of downtown. It' s no secret that "Rockwood" has went to the hispanics also these days. They already call it " little Mexico"....what do they want...they want more Government sponsored help...esp in school and local businesses. So anyway...the Mayor todl this gal that thereis not ruling in the city charter that would allow such an district separation...but shoot.... we already know the city is into thier own little sections as it is...it goes by income and education. It's been an very bitter pill for us country folk to be made to watch the contractors come in an build the housing projects out here. We lost our country atmosphere to the city....the reason we left to buy out here. I doubt the Mayor will do anything..as he said, he thinks more could be done if the jobs of the councilmen were paid positions and not volunteer. Why should be pay.... for nothing as it is? For the most part we see these people's names on the ballots and that's about the only time.To some degree...we like it like that...it's means more " freedom" for everyone. I guess I should go for now..it's sprinkling rain outside...the chair painting gets postponed some more. Talk later on. |
